Thanks Richard, that is history new to me.
Despite the differing opinions on strategy, there was unification adequate to mount a response and victory, justifying recognition of the Greatest Generation. We had fathers and uncles on land and sea.
We were at the funeral of one of those this morning. The fraternity of the 21 Gun Salute is never lost on me.

Hard to visualize that unity today when the loyalties, dispute and aggression are ideological and domestic.
We haven't had a good(?) war that brought us together since WWII.
