View Full Version : E-brake relocation with T56 magnum (fitment questions?)

While planning my e-brake relocation, I realized I may not have much space in the trans tunnel due to the beefier T56 transmission. Those who went with T56, how much space is there in the transmission tunnel? Will I be able to fit this mod (https://www.ffcars.com/threads/parking-brake-mod-update-2.14915/)? I've also seen in a post by @edwardb where the e-brake is mounted almost completely above the trans tunnel (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?31653-Tremec-T56-Magnum-Too-Tall-in-Gen-3-Coupe-Tunnel), but that's in a Type 65 coupe with a T56.

Any pictures or measurements of the available space inside the trans tunnel with a T56 trans in place would be great!

Hard to tell how much that mod really takes up but it might fit. In mine there is a reasonable amount of room on that side in that spot.

I personally haven't installed a T56 in a Roadster. But from what I've observed from others who've done it, the e-brake needs to be moved from the side of the transmission tunnel. It's a common mod -- regardless of transmission or space concerns -- to move the e-brake to the top of the tunnel. Very often using a Lokar handle. In lots of threads and posts. Here's one: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?31658-Options-for-e-Brake-Relocation.

BTW -- the reference to the top mounted e-brake in the first post is my Gen 3 Coupe build. That top tunnel location is the stock kit setup for the Gen 3 Coupe. Uses the same FF e-brake handle as the Roadster and other kits. So that's an option too.

How are you liking the top-mounted e-brake? It looks pretty far back towards the seats. Is it awkward to engage/disengage?

Nope, not awkward at all. Especially compared to the side mount on the Roadster.

Maybe not an answer to your question, but I have a 302 ford racing boss block with the T56 mounted in the standard location. I cut away all the parking brake brackets and installed the Willwood electric parking brake. Very happy with it except for the price, but it hurts only once right? Also slightly relocated one of the frame tubes, but in hindsight that may not have been necessary.

Here are two pictures showing the space I have on that side in mine. Its tight but theres definitely a couple inches past the edge of the frame tubes

Thanks for the pictures! That gives me a much better idea about what I can fit in there.
