Afternoon everyone!

Is the GTM worth it or just a money pit?
how much of the C5 Corvette is used for a GTM?
I drive my Corvette hard and even get up to 140-150mph, is the stock GTM safe enough to drive at those speeds?

I already own a C5 Corvette and don't mind using it as a donor.

Great questions that don't have perfect answers. Is it worth it? Depends on what you want and what your expectations are. If you really like the idea of putting your C5 on a 900 pound diet and getting the performance gains that come along with that.....and owning something that is unique and gets attention everywhere it goes.....then it might be worth it. Is it a money pit? It can be...again, depending on your expectations. If you want a show-quality end result, yes, that's going to cost you either some time or money or both. If you can do all of your own bodywork and paint, then mostly just time.

How much of the C5 is used? Complete engine, complete suspension and brakes, radiator, Coolant reservoir, steering column, window regulators, door handles, hood latches, outer CVs, power mirrors, wheels and tires and a bunch of other smaller items.

If set up correctly, yes, they can safely run those speeds....I guess depending on your definition of "safe"?

Probably the biggest expense part right now is the transaxle. Porsche or Mendy...either way, they are pretty spendy right now.

As an FYI, Factory Five Racing is sold out on GTM kits all the way through 2022. Called concerning one and switched to a Daytona…

Thanks for the reply. My C5 Corvette is partially built by me, I do have pfadt racing suspension and brand new C6Z51 brakes and even a spare set. My C5 is in good shape and would work as a full on donor but some items I will rebuild if needed. I can wrench and do just about everything except for welding as I do not have that skill. I have sources for C5 parts no problem both locally and online and really it will be easy for me as I am familiar with it.

My C5 is full turn key ready and has zero issues.

My Corvette is not a garage queen but I do care for it and is in great shape. I do drive it and I don't baby it, GTM will be treated the same way but will also be going to the track as well.

I guess my main safety concern is the front downforce at factory setting being this car a mid engine and super light in the front. Around 145 on the C5 I feel the front end wanting to lift. GTM will not be a garage queen by any means and will be driving in all weather conditions as I enjoy to cruise.

I will wrap the car myself to keep cost down. Plain and simple I will drive the car as much as my Corvette.

I don't mind getting someone's project for a cheaper price but need to see what something like that goes for.

Unfinished projects can be had for $25000, although the current market is insane for all cars...

To address the front end lift issue, there are several things you can do to help with that. Front splitter, canards, hood louvers and fender louvers.....all of which I have available:

FFR is building ten GTM kits next year, one week's production. That leads one to speculate that they are phasing-out the GTM and kitting-out the parts on hand.
F9 and a truck in the wings.....

My suggestion would be to keep your Vette in its current condition and find a donor that is wrecked and cheap. It may cost a little up front for the donor but I believe you will be money ahead in the long run as you can always sell which ever one you end up liking the least. These builds are a journey and you must understand that you will likely be without a "performance car", if you use your current Vette as a donor, for quite some time.

Thanks and truthfully I would use my Vette as it would be a waste to buy another and I don't want to have 2 sports cars. My main hobby/passion is music and auto is 2nd.
