Hi all, unfortunately I had a bad experience with Speedhut. I sent them my gauge to switch the C water temp gauge to F. I get it back and the face is COMPLETELY different--very shiny and glossy and cheap looking, especially in the sun. A pic is below (in the garage at night but put a flashlight on it) to show you what I mean. Obviously this stands out like a sore thumb with the rest of the gauges. I asked her if I can switch back and she said "sorry they throw them away every day" and basically there's nothing I can do about it. She did say that they will switch the rest of my gauge set for free if I want. It looks so cheap, I don't think I want to go that route.

I'm going to move the water to the leftmost gauge so it's as far to the left as possible.

I am throwing out a long shot and hoping someone has a C matte black vintage water temp gauge that they can sell me. Anyone have one laying around? Or any ideas on how I can fix this??

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,
Matt

I wonder why they didn’t return your original gauge face after the switch. You paid for it.

She said they don't have the tooling for it anymore...

The story doesn't add up since they are still selling these exact gauges to Factory Five, right? They may not have the one taken out of your gauge. But they should have plenty more since it's an active part. I'd switch back to Centigrade before leaving that one as is. You do get used it... This isn't up to the usual Speedhut customer service standard IMO.

Not sure if this helps but here’s a pic of the same gauge that I just received a month or 2 ago (order was direct from speed hut) Backing is definitely flat and not a gloss black.158360158362158363

I just received my oil temp gauge replacing my clock. I had the same results as Matt, a gauge with a textured backing that does not match up to my other gauges. I called Speedhut and they told me the new machine does not print a smooth finish only textured. Seems odd they would purchase a new machine that does not print the same type of backing. I am not sure if I will keep the gauge or send it back. It is not a drastic difference but definitely noticeable if you are staring at the gauges. They did offer to reface all my gauges in the new textured finish but I do not want to pull all my gauges out.

I am assuming all the new gauges coming to FFR from Speedhut will have this new textured backing look.

Follow up to this, I wanted to give Speedhut some recognition for making things right. After I sent a picture of the difference in gauge texture about two weeks later I receive email from them saying they have a new gauge face that matches up and sent it to me. Sure enough it was exact match, so if you did receive one of the "textured glossy" looking gauge faces recently they have now corrected the problem.

Left side is matte finish gauge face over the previous "textured glossy" look

Gauge face installed, takes about 5 minutes to swap a new one in.

Great outcome. I experienced excellent service from Speedhut on an issue that I didn't think they would respond to. Australian requirements dictate a 6 digit odometer. My supplied speedometer was 5. Straight forward email trail, sent speedometer to them and it was back in my hands 2weeks later with new firmware for 999,999 kilometres. All at no charge. Can't expect more than that for service.

That is great customer service. Now did they make the clock so the hands light up.

I actually ditched the clock because it never seemed to keep the right time and I never used it or even had a need for it. The oil temp gauge dial indicator lights up :)

the clock running too fast bugs me. it'd be a different story if it ran too slow and you would just need to catch it up every now an again. since it runs too fast, i'll need to set it ahead 11.5 hrs to read the correct time like once every couple of weeks. I've installed a separate push button cable just for the clock so I can reset it. I've resorted to using the GPS clock on the speedo to tell time since it's always calibrated.

Thanks Fman, this is great news!!

Yeah that’s crazy the clock can’t keep the time! What is this, the 1800s???

Here is a good video of how to swap out the gauge face on the Speedhut vintage gauges:
