The first step was getting it out of the trailer with my wife Debi and my son Michaels help and into the shop on the chassis Dolly I built from plans on the forum.

My next step is to remove all the aluminum panels. Would appreciate any advise. I am planning to powder coat the visible panels and put in sound deadening and heat insulation in the Driver/passenger area. I also plan to undercoat the car panels with a bedliner type of material. Plan to take lots of pictures primarily to remember what panels go on top.

Other Advise?

How’d you manage to get the kit in two weeks?!? I’m 4mo in on a 7mo wait and it’s killing me. I’ll be watching your build as it mirrors mine. Good luck!!

Ok Completed my first build task. While I am waiting to get my Clecos for doing aluminum I started to work on the first steps in building the IRS. Started by modifying the IRS Knuckles. I cut off both tabs with a Sawzall and then cleaned them up with a angle grinder with various grits of flapper disks. Removed some of the casting lines at the same time.

I also removed the studs from the spindles and inserted the new ones from the Factory 5 kit using my 1/2 impact and a lug nut and multiple washers. Founded that it went better if I staked up about 5 washers versus just one. The Sawzall took awhile but got through it cleanly. and the angle grinder cleaned them up pretty quickly.

Most of my time was spend looking at the manual and then reviewing EdwardBs build thread to review how he did this same task.... what a blessing to have this forum to review and gain knowledge and confidence from.... makes the build process much more enjoyable.

Last task in this sequence is to drill out the holes in the Knuckles and center section to 5/8 th inches. Sounds like if I use my cordless drill with a torque setting for protection from kick back I should be OK. Just waiting on my new drill bits to arrive on Sunday since I did not have a 5/8th bit in my set.

Started pre-fitting panels with the trunk area aluminum. Both following manual and other folks build threads. Seems pretty strait forward so far... but can already tell I could use more clecos! Using the provided rivet guide to do 3" spacing for panels that attach to frame and 2" for panel to panel. This was very helpful. Lots more panels to go and then off to powder coating. I am also going to get a powder coating kit and try doing some of the smaller parts myself like Traveller did... looks like fun.
