New build with sniper and built 302. Everything runs well except I can's get the sniper to control the fan (works fine if I hook it directly to a external battery). I made the red wire jumper connection (RF instructions) and have the light blue sniper wire going to one of the green fan thermo wires. Can anyone give some insight?

There are a number of ways to get it to work but from your pic it looks to me like you're using the fan relay in the RF harness (fuse panel). This requires a ground trigger to activate the relay and turn the fan on. Note that the Holley also has a relay in their Sniper harness but it is intended to be wired direct to the fan and it provides a +12V output, this can't be used to trigger the RF fan relay. What most do is take the ground trigger signal from the Sniper that goes to trigger the Holley relay and route that to the RF fan relay instead. i've kept it somewhat brief, shout if you need more details

I'm shouting out - can you give as many specifics as possible? words, diagrams, pics - I have spent way too much time on this and from what I understand it should be a simple cross over. Thanks for your help!!

There shouldn't need to be any changes at the fuse block. The RF fan circuit will power the fan using a ground trigger from either of the two green Thermo Control wires. The fan control wire on the Sniper simply completes the ground when the coolant temp hits the programmed temperature. I recommend reversing the jumper mod and simply letting the RF circuit work as designed.

Just like Papa says you need to make sure that both of the red wires coming off of the relay are connected again with 12vdc+. The light blue from the sniper will then complete the circuit for the relay coil as it is a 12vdc- signal when it wants the fan to run.

You want to connect the light blue wire from the 10 pin sniper connector (Output #1) to the Dark Green Fan Thermo Switch wire in the front harness. You do not want to connect the fan thermo switch.

You also need to activate the output in the Sniper menu system. This is explained on pg 50 and 51 of the Sniper Installation manual

Hope that helps

THanks guys - I "un-did" the red jumper mod and the fan works but now it won't turn off. I've got the sniper set to turn on at 180d and off at 150d. Didn't have much time today but for the hell of it I cut the light blue wire from the sniper that I had spliced into the dark green thermo wire from RF and the fan ran no matter what. Only way to shut it off was to turn the battery switch off. Won't get to it again for another couple of days but input is always welcome. Thnks

What temp thermostat do you have? You should set the Sniper to turn on about 10 degrees above your thermostat value and off at the thermostat value. I have a 180 degree thermostat and the Sniper turns the fan on at 190 and off at 180.

So now that you restored the red wiring all that needs to happen for the fan to run is one of the green wires to be grounded. Looks like you spliced into one of the greens with the sniper light blue which is correct but you need to make sure that the other green wires are insulated and not touching ground. One is in the sending unit harness and the other one should be right with the electric fan +- wires.

Haven't done what you said D Stand yet, but more FYI per Papa. Fuse box red and green wires are hooked back up to stock. Per Papa - tried Light blue from Sniper directly to fan ground at the bottom of the fan. Tried the Green from sniper as well. Both Fan 1 and 2 set to 75 on and 60 off ( 40 degrees in my garage now), Fan runs if I ground (to frame) the same lead I was running to the sniper. Ohm meter shows (-).006 between sniper blue or green to ground when display shows fan on. Very confused???

The fan has a power and ground for the motor. The Sniper is not used to ground the fan, but to trigger the relay that the fan is powered by. The fan motor needs to be connected to the blue (+) and black (-) wires that are in the front harness for the fan. The green Thermo Control wire, either near the fan wiring or the second one in the sender bundle needs to be connected to the fan control (light blue) wire from the Sniper. Be sure the fan output is enabled in the software.

Just like touching the green Thermo Control wire to the chassis (grounding it), the Sniper is completing the ground to that wire when the trigger temp is reached based on the coolant temperature. That is when power is sent to the fan via the dark blue wire out of the relay that is connected to the fan as I mentioned above. Do you have the coolant temp sensor (CTS) installed and wired to the Sniper? Is it reading the coolant temp and displaying it on the handheld? Silly question, but you don't have the mechanical fan control switch wired to the Sniper by mistake? You should also use the CTS that came with the Sniper and should not be sharing the CTS for the water temp dash gauge.

This may help. Just ignore the manual switch and fan light parts.
