View Full Version : Russ Thompson turn signal not working (right turn)
Unfortunately my Russ Thompson turn signal is not staying on in the upright position (right turn), it will immediately click down and return to the center position. I have checked to make sure I do not have any interference with the steering. It will still turn the signal on I just have to hold it with my finger while driving, the downward left signal works good and will retract like it was designed. I would like to see if I can fix this myself it is pretty easy to access it and take it off the steering shaft cylinder without having to disconnect the wires under the dash. I did call Russ today and he offered to take a look at it and see if he can repair it if I sent it to him but I would like to explore repairing it myself first.
Has anyone had this happen and had success in correcting the problem?

It seems the instructions said something about not pulling on the wire feed along the side of the column. I forget the exact results, but it interfered with operation, somehow.
Anyway, maybe you can push some slack toward the steering wheel.

I had the same issue. Sent it back to Russ and he was able to fix mine. Good luck.

Will be interested to see the fix as mine does the same thing. It's not an issue with wiring interference as I had it completely out of the car this past winter when the dash was apart and it would do it sitting on the bench. Should have investigated further at the time but wanted to get the car back together in time for spring.

Mine failed a couple of times. It is a friction based latch that wears over time. As mentioned above, I contacted Russ and he made the necessary fixes.
I am on the list for the "new improved" version that Russ is now offering. Apparently he has had much better luck with this newer version. They are currently sitting on a cargo ship off the coast of So. Cal.... so who knows when they will arrive.

The one in my Coupe is doing the same thing. Left works OK. Right (interestingly...) also doesn't stay down. Have to hold it. Also talked to Russ and he said he could try to fix or provide a new improved one. I've had it apart several times with no luck. I want a new one. On my winter list to remove and send to him. Hopefully that ship can get docked and unloaded before spring. :p

Hey, Travis, I'm also running into an issue with my RT turn signal. The right self-cancel works correctly after making a turn, but the left self-cancel only retracts part of the way after a turn. I can hear it click and see it release, but it doesn't go all the way back unless I push it the rest of the way.
Anyone else see this problem?

To close on my previous post and respond to yours. Russ tried unsuccessfully to repair mine. So I have a new one from his latest shipment of switches. Installed in the Coupe and works perfectly. My suggestion is talk to Russ. He's very responsive and will work with you to get yours either repaired or replaced.

I had the same issue, I thought. But if I turn on the right signal while sitting still, it would stay on. While driving, it would go off (with the slightest steering wheel movement). I ended up adding a inner sleeve inside the RT sleeve to reinforce it. The set screw was bending the RT sleeve inward a little which added drag to the mechanism, affected the workings. Luckily I found something at the hardware store that was the exact diameter needed, only had to cut to length.
