Congrats on reaching the big milestone in the build.

One note though: Have you verified clearance on that starter solenoid to the back of the head? Looks like it might be a little tight. And access to it later will be pretty tough.

I appreciate the info....Does anyone have a photo or two of that area??? Now is the time to move it. I located it there because that is all the longer my wires were.....

Willy, we will have to see if someone can help us out on the solenoid location... I believe I got my coupe two or three weeks before you.

Nice work Bob. You'll be driving around town, looking like Steve McQueen, before too long!

You will probably be ok on clearance but it will be damn hard to get in there for any maintenance or replacement. Mine is tucked down that low but over on the foot box and I can barely get in there to change any wires. I just recently added a remote cut-off and had to get in there to re-route the battery cables and it was a major pain. Don't know what I'll have to do if I ever need to replace the solenoid.

I ran across this photo from Richard Oben showing the firewall modification necessary for his AC unit. It also appears to show room for the solenoid to be mounted where Willy and I have mounted ours......6122

As low as yours is the bellhousing is closer than the back of the block but should be ok. Still consider the maintenance aspect. You know how Murphy works.... If you make it impossible to get to it will be the first thing to break. Twice. ;)

Good point....but it looks so nice there (said in a whinning voice) I will move it. :( Actually I hope my whole build is thought out enough that reapirs and adjustments won't be too tough because it will be me that has to do it. :)

Yeah I thought the same thing when I mounted mine down there on the footbox. Nice and out of the way, can't really see it unless you stick your head right down there next to the footbox.....Oops.

As far as solenoid location you are fine I mounted mine like you at the end of the wireing. My kit supplied solenoid worked four times and had to be replaced and it was not hard there was enough rome to work.

Well....that is good to know, now I think I will leave it as is, I can always stand on my head if it needs changed. :)

You guys are making great progress....just curious, what motor will you be using and what color are you going to paint it? I just sold my MK2 and keep thinking of building one of one these beautiful cars.

I will be using a 302 block and if you are talking about the engine color it will be black. I have done several streetrods in the past with all the color and chrome so this is a real switch for me, but I want the car to look more race ready and not really for show. Having said that my painter will give me a top notch paint job that would rival any show car. Car color will be red with black stripes and white meatballs....unless of course that changes before the car is sprayed. :)

Looking good, I'm close but not down on the wheels yet. Great job!

I haven't measured the distance, but here's a shot of a 302 in my coupe, still under construction. It appears there would be plenty of room and access to that area.

What are those brakes up front? And the wheels? Any clearance issues?

If you are asking about my car, they are Wilwood six piston calipers and stock FFR wheels all ordered from FFR. No clearance problems although it is close. :)

Thanks Rob for the photo. Your build looks good and it is nice to see the engine bay filled (unlike mine). :)

Willy, I have plenty of time also....I have a spot reserved for my car with my painter for this time next year!! I plan on having plenty of time to shake down this car in the go-cart stage.
