What in the world was the purpose of this attack. I guess some just hate anything American.

Ummm, ya think? She is a blond haired, blue eyed, woman. American. She was gonna get picked on just for being there no matter what. So she shouldn't have been there and shame on CBS for even having her there. We had already seen the violent attacks on Journalists in Egypt, which is just this side of being as bad as any other Middle Eastern Country right now. Several times we saw people telling journalists that they hate the newsman because he was American. Once again shame on CBS for having her there without adequate security. With Iran now under the protesters gun, are we going to send women there? I doubt it.

Curious how this will affect the PC reporting.

The third world is full of savages and when you throw it into a group ,that is what happens. These people don't live like we do and they should be aware. The other part is she should be smart enough to know that, and as CCory said...the network will push them out there .
I doubt she wore any traditional clothing ,she probably thought she was doing them a great favor by telling the world about the shallow victory! Personally I do not watch any big networks ever and I don't know who she is ,but being a news reporter ,if she knows anything about the world she reports on.... she should know better. The network should have smart enough people to send a big ugly hairy guy,but I really think....they would let anything happen for more news, then when something does happen ,they play the sympathy card. How long do they have to be in business to know this is dangerous? If they ask you or me "should we send this girl" we would say NO.
I think the network should be held accountable

The one thing that Egypt should be proud of with all this is the fact that the world got to see exactly how a$$ backward they still are, and how they treat women. It took a bunch of women to save her. Yeah the men there should so proud of themselves for beating on a woman. This is true of all Middle eastern countries though. Women are still third rate. Dogs and camels get treated better..Yep......They should be so proud of themselves.....Grrrr.....

I'm sort of curious about the security team and the rest of her group. There was a group of people there to support her to include a security team....how may of them were hurt with no mention. IF none of them were hurt, then my question come to how did she get seperated from the security team? I venture to say, she got in her head that she was a celebrity and they would not hurt her. Not excusing what happened, no one should have to go thru that.

I'm not sure how big a security team you'd need to protect you in a crowd of several hundred thousand angry middle east arabs...
Regardless, reporters get attacked by drunken tailgaters.

This was a tragedy, no doubt. Some might say an occupational hazard. Not to be picayune, (sp) or trivialize this savage attack, but I believe she's British, not American. I'm not pointing this out to get flamed, please don't take it the wrong way. I hope the animals that did this are brought to justice.
Thanks,
Will

Lara Logan - From South Africa, was married to a Brit, now married to an American - More information on Lara here;

I think the whole thing smacks as a setup from the Egyptian Government.. She apparently ignored warnings according to one article I read..

That location was probably not safe for any American reporter. She was not really in any greater danger than a male reporter. Sexual assaults could happen to any gender with those people. While I think our media should be safe anywhere they had clear indications that there was considerable risk at that location. It seems like they should have stayed out of the street mobs.

The more I think about this the more it upsets me (I am understating how i feel to not cross the line of a family friendly board). It took a bunch, 20 or so, women to stop what happened to her. Wrong place, wrong time..., whatever. Foolish, I don't know. She got separated from her team and she paid the price, and will pay for years. It's disgusting.
Yep good ole South African and she grew up a very pretty Brunette with good assets . Only went blonde when she got famous on TV.

Odd that there seems to be less respect here for embedded field reporters than say, first responders, members of our military, race car drivers or other high-risk job-doers.
Doing her job would scare the pants off me, and I have to respect ANYONE doing a job that dangerous - regardless of how well it pays.

I certainly respect her for doing her job. I agree she deserves that respect after seeing some of her battlefield reporting, But I have to question her judgment on going into a crowd of American/British/South African hating men, without the protection of a group of Marines or Army Infantry soldiers, or payed security detail.
A woman just doesn't walk into a square like that and not be fully prepared for the whole thing to go to $h!t. It is a decision she will have to live with the rest of her life. But somehow I believe we will see her out there, back in the saddle again. She has my respect for certain.
Now if that happened to an Egyptian female reporter in America, there would have been a completely different discussion, and the entire Middle East would be up and arms over it. Look what happened when that teacher named her pet pig Mohammed...Yikes!

That's right ! that pisses me off ! BUT it would also be the little groups here in the states that would keep the fire hot
It's a shame some people call themselves part of the animal kingdom
