Hello All

Got a couple of questions with my BluePrint GM427LS engine that I'm using in my build.

PCV
The GM paperwork that comes with the engine describes pcv ports and how to route them. Unfortunately, what's described in the paperwork does not match the ports seen on the blueprint engine. Does anyone have any experience with this ? Any pics showing how you setup PCV ?

Water Neck
I'm using an ACDelco 131-160 thermostat as recommended and that thing comes with a fairly elaborate rubber gasket installed. I've tried 2 or 3 angled water necks but not a single one will fit the thermostat and gasket. The necks have the notch cut out on them but the gasket seems to be too wide a diameter to fit the necks. Anyone ran into this ? Is there a special part number to use for a water neck ?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!

for the PCV: there are a few different generations of setups that GM ran and they can interchange for the most part or even be made better. do you have pictures of what you have versus the instructions? I would assume it's a modern setup like on a LS3. generally with an LS, in my experience, I would recommend adding a catch can setup. There will be 2/3 outputs you will route into one another on one side of the can (one or both of the valve cover breathers, also the single tube coming from under the intake manifold at the front of the engine (this is the valley cover port, most important!)) then your output from the catch can will go to the port on the passenger side of the intake right behind the throttle body.

in a stock setup the valley cover exit routes straight into the intake port. You can get away with the stock setup if you want, but personally since you're running a high dollar engine I would seriously recommend spending the extra $150 on a good catch can/air oil separator. One of the most notorious problems LS engines have is high blowby under load and especially cornering. it's better to catch all that **** than route it straight into your intake manifold.

@ProJoe I think I may have found the PCV ports. Looks like BluePrint jumpered them together. I was definitely planning on a catch can and it looks like these are the ports that need to be plumbed into the can ?

The pic shows the ports just behind the throttle body on the passenger side of the engine.

Any recommended catch cans that work well with LS ?

Hello Lewma,

This is Jose with BluePrint Engines, I would be more than happy to assist you on this issue. Can you email me directly at jose@blueprintengines.com? I would like to send you the PCV routing diagram.

Thank you, Jose

Hey Mark,

yep that is factory plumbing from the valley cover exit to the intake manifold inlet. a catch can would go between them.

I am a fan of moroso's large body catch because it has a drain petcock built in. makes emptying it a breeze. but there are a ton of choices out there that will all work well. check summit, jegs, etc.
