View Full Version : What ratio do I need?

Okay guys, first off, I am not a business (nor do I want to be one). I am just a guy who likes the analog stuff in a car to work well. You know, like the steering wheel, brake, clutch, and gas pedals.
I am also pretty good at using computers to do things for me. To figure out what transmission, rear gear, and tire sizes I needed to make my car do what I want it to do, I tossed together a little Windows application.
Have not figured out how to share the little thing yet, but am willing to do so. Me being the OCD/anal engineer I am, I am all about numbers and easily fall deep into the well of details when questions I ask myself go unanswered. To that end, here is a screenshot of the application at work. I have several things around to help me answer those questions (No, I do not know the secret to life,...still pondering that one). Some are for suspension, some for ignition and so on. Those are not fit for human consumption yet, but now that I am retired, I am working on them more.
If any of you would like me to run a chart for your car, just send me a message. I posted this on one of the FB groups and got a lot of likes, but no takers. It tells me I have stepped deep into that confounded well.
This particular one represents a Coyote with a T56, a 3.55 rear end and 315/30x18R tires.

The graphing is a cool feature, have you seen Tremec's tool... https://www.tremec.com/calculadora.php

There are a couple of WEB based things like that. I just wanted to have something I could use without being connected to the Internet. It will also export an image native to your monitor resolution.
It's just the engineer in me doing things while I am waiting.

`I have been through 4 different sets of gears now, from 2.73 to 3.73 and by far the 3.55's are the best all around gear for any of the set ups.

Skuzzy,
I like it. The graph shows more info than a standard chart and it's easy to pick a shift point and see the next gear RPM.
I've built a calculator but yours is way more refined.

Thank you. I appreciate it. You are welcome to use it. I just have to figure out where to get it hosted. Dropbox and Google drive are not options. I have no issue giving it to anyone who wants to use it. It is a simple stand-alone program. Only 132K in size.

Thinking about adding a way to overlay configurations to be able to see a direct comparison between options. Not sure how this will look yet. I am not sure it is worth the effort either. As my Coupe kit is arriving this morning, I will have less time for programming.

Looks like I can email it to anyone via outlook.com. If you want it, just message me an email address and I will send it. Still working on some more features.

I have been using Scuzzy's calculator for a few days now. Works well and gives a great representation of the rpm, speed and shift points. While multiple configuration graphing isn't yet incorporated it's easy to change gears or tire sizes to evaluate the differences.
Just in case you don't have the trans data here're the gear ratios for various Tremec transmissions.
TKO-600 2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1, .82 or .64. I think the TKO-500 uses the same ratios
TKX 2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1, .81 or .68
T56 2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1, .8 or .63
T56 2.97, 2.10, 1.46, 1, .75 or .5
There are other variations in some models, most common shown.
The most common rear gears are 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73. Yes, there are others but these seem to work well for the 5xx, 4xx and 3xx HP motors.
And a Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Appreciate the support Jim1855.
Just and FYI. If you have a GMail address, GMail does not allow the sending or receiving of executables. So I cannot send to a GMail address.

Thanks, Jim.
Do you have the ratios handy for the T5-Z?

Austinsnake,
T5-Z ratios. Sorry I don't. Not sure if there are still available on Tremec's site.
Some of the more senior forum members may have them.

Okay, I have put the ZIP file on Google drive (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vzyystobor7g4yLrg0nXuGWt1RRXWlMr/view?usp=sharing) and set it so anyone can download it (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vzyystobor7g4yLrg0nXuGWt1RRXWlMr/view?usp=sharing).
