I was on the fence about the build school for a few years. Had the class in my cart a few years back, then saw the course was in Michigan and said screw it. But, now that I have a kit on order I've been thinking about it again. Had Martin Luther King weekend circled, finally got up the guts to sign up and that weekend is full. I called, but they really didn't have any answers to if there was a wait list, so I signed up for the March date with hopes that there will be an opening in January. The January weekend just works better for my schedule. Either way, I'm pretty excited as my hope is that it will just save a headache or two along the journey. From what I'm hearing on here, it's not perfect for every build, but everyone that has gone has been happy with it.

Nice! This is certainly on my bucket list of things to do. I didn't build my roadster but I certainly work on it a lot! I keep thinking, it would be great to know exactly some of these things went together. The build manually is a bit terse for figuring things out when I want to repair or change something. So anyway, yeah.. this is a must do on my list.

One of the great things about Build School is that everyone there is a true car nut. You can get as deep in the weeds on a given topic as you want, and eyes don't glaze over. Plus you get to meet Todd B. in person!

Went to the build school way back , had a great time you’ll definitely learns some time savers, great bunch of guys in the class I attended. a couple of father and son teams , and some retirees .we had a lot of camaraderie in our class , we all went to a local pub for dinner and bench racing after class . I went in January and had to chip the ice off the windshield and windows every morning, I’m born and raised in SoCal so the first morning I’m like what the hell is this was definitely a worthwhile experience.

Why John, yes you would be right, I will be there.
You cannot keep me away.
As always Tooth I can say you will have a ball like the others have before you.
We know how to throw down and have a great build party weekend.
Its gonna be a ball. Hopefully we won't have too much snow.
See you then.

Went this past September and it was absolutely awesome! Learned a lot and really helped me in planning my build. Take lots of pictures and lots of notes. Ask any and all questions.

There is not wait list. Keep an eye on the website and jump on any openings that pop up.

Todd - thanks for your time and patience with me!

I still think they should do an online course or build video series. I am sure they would still fill their build school enrollment as many folks want to get hands on but there is a whole untapped market of folks that can't make it. When I was looking to go COVID locked everything down and by the time the school came back on line I had my cobra and was over ½ way through my build. I would have gladly paid for an online course or video series.

It was 15 years ago, but if I went to build school it would have paid for itself at least 5x over.

It also would have saved me hundreds of frustrating hours in the garage, even though I didn't do a straight donor build which was taught at the time.

A lot of this was because the early MK3 build manual was not that great, but even today I encourage all builders to go to the build school. I've seen dozens of video clips and they are fantastic.

I've known the instructors and have been recommending the school for years. I actually made the trip and sat in as a visitor a month or so ago to finally see it all for myself. The guys (Scott, Todd and Jim) do a great job which which would be of great benefit to anyone with limited experience...or even those with not so limited (I picked up a couple of tidbits myself ;))!

I did the build school this past spring - and my order just arrived 2 weeks ago. The build school is a GREAT way to see the forest as well as a few trees in your build. I really liked knowing the general build phases, learning lots of tips and tricks - take A LOT of notes and pictures, and meeting a fun group of guys too. Have fun!

For those that attended, where did you stay? From Boston there are direct flights to Detroit, but no direct flights to Flint.

Mott's website recommends two locations with special rates: https://www.mcc.edu/factory5/accommodations.shtml. Flint is a regional airport, so mainly only has flights to hubs, e.g. Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte. It might be worth your while to fly through one of those hubs and land in Flint. It's way smaller and simpler than Detroit Metro and very close to the build school. But flying into Detroit Metro isn't terrible. Decent airport but the usual shuttle to rental cars, etc. Roughly an hour drive to Flint.

I live in the area, about 30 minutes south of Flint. So kind of know the drill here. Have fun at the build school. Know the guys there and they do a great job.

I'll be at the March class!

I signed up for the class in 2020, but it was canceled due to COVID. I've had my kit for a little over a year and besides finishing the electrical should be almost to go-kart stage when I take the class. I was debating whether or not I should take the class, but I think it will be a really fun weekend and I can use all the help I can get for the electrical portion of the build.

Tooth, my comments on travel arrangements:
Flight: I flew into DTW and rented a car. The drive to/from Flint wasn't too bad, a little over an hour by highway.

Hotel: Stayed at the Holiday Inn on Gateway Centre, which is about a 10 minute drive from campus. If I was doing it again, I would stay at the Marriott next door. Hotel wasn't too bad, I'm just picky. I think both the Holiday Inn and Marriott have a discount rate for Mott. If you have any travel points, both hotels minimal points.

Food: Lunch is provided each day during class. Food was standard takeout fare - pizza, subs, etc, but excellent for hanging out with the group at talking shop. I highly recommend Redwood Steakhouse across the street from the hotels.

Have fun. I wish I was going back again!

I was there in September as well. Not sure how many Roadster classes there were in September, but I suspect only one. I was the guy from North Georgia. My Complete kit (but missing quite a few parts) was delivered 12/15/21 and ordered back in June. Here we go!
