Question to the pros,
Thanks in advance,
Is the quality of the plastic scoop always as poor as mine?
(Received my kit Dec 2014, been driving since Aug 2016 in gel coat)
I am now doing body work in preparation for paint / final finishing, etc.
My scoop is very unequal in height side to side of the front opening.
Right side is significantly lower than left. (It’s disgusting to say the least)
Are they all the same as received from FFR?
Is it worth it to order a new one from FFR?
Is there a fix...besides building my own?
My scoop location is slightly offset to the right...this accentuates the problem. I did this so that my stripes will be straight and scoop will be center of stripes. I am ok with it being that slight bit lower because of not being centered on the hood.
Is the scoop modifiable?

I'll assume you have the plastic scoop? Set it on a flat surface....it's not the scoop.....it's the curve of the hood. I get it, you are micro focused on the job at hand....take a cleansing breath in through your nose....hold......hold....exhale through your as/... mouth ! I SAID MOUTH !!!! I see it all the time...I just don't tell anyone. Once you have it striped and finished no one will see it,,,and if they do...It's just like an original...Da Bat.... and no, the plastic scoops are unmodi....unmoydid....umodiphy///##@@&*&*&....YA CAN'T CHANGE THEM ! You could add filler to the hood to raise it up but that's another can of worms.

I went through the same thing in my mind when I built my car ! But if you look at pictures of original cars they suck ! Once it's finished it's not that noticeable !!

Not something that I’ve observed so curiosity got me and I just measured 5 of them on a flat surface…all were within 1/16” side to side.
Any chance that at some point over the course of 7 years something heavy was resting on it which caused it to deform?
Now if you want to discuss non symmetrical we can talk about the fiberglass scoops that predated the ABS ones!

You just heard from two of the best painters who likely are the most knowledgable fellows when Jeff & Jeff replied.
Like you the plastic scoop symmetry bugged me to the point where I decided to go scoopless.
Before going down that path I looked hard at possibly buying one of these:

When I got my kit I looked at the scoop and did not like it and ordered a fiberglass scoop. Much more substantial in thickness and rigidity. However when applying it to the car that rigidity sucked because it did not match the hood contour. So... I went back to the ABS scoop and found it is much more flexible to the good, and pulls down to mach the hood contour better. I was more worried about paint sticking to the ABS then the fitment. Both worked out fine.

It does sound like it was squished a bit. Can you get the height back by sliding the RH side in a bit? Once it is riveted, it should stay. Seems like I remember this, but turned out to be a non-issue. My issue turned out to be the black color changed the hue of my white stripes. Be sure your painter primes that scoop! I assumed he knew to do it...

Has anyone here used either the standard or wide you reference? If so, please post pics.

Jeff,
Mine is more like 3/16 different, the upright before the bend is different in length besides the fact that the angles are different.
Maybe I just got a bad one.
I will figure something out in the end...metal / new one maybe.
Thanks for the reply’s everyone.
