View Full Version : FFR Power Steering Adaptor between to hose and rack
I have a slight leak between my power steering rack (FFR supplied) and the AN adapter. The AN adapter to the power steering hose is fine.
Question - is the adapter that connects into the power steering rack suppose to have a O-Ring at the end?

I have the same type of leak. Is the area where your AN fitting threads into the rack recessed or machined flat? Mine is flat. I tried an O-ring, but it squished out and has a small leak. I would like to fix mine as well.

They use an “O” ring. Do not over tighten the fitting or the ring can be cut or as Ricky said “squish out.” Don’t bear down, just make it dnug.

Thanks Jeff. So we should use an adapter with an “o”-ring at the end such as this … 156284156284156284

I used a fitting from Maximum motor sports. it has a white oring that does squish as easy. It had the same leak and used this and so far no more leak. If you already have the fittings you can buy just the sealant and orings.

I've used these on several racks and they hold up quite well.

The important parts of the install are the correct torque and using the 545 Loctite. Sounds like you are using a different fitting but you could try with the o-ring and the 545 to see if that solves your problem.
Also, be careful not to overtighten the AN fittings. A general rule of thumb for a 6AN is 1 and 1/2 flats from finger-tight.
Good luck. Scott

I installed the fittings from Maximum Motorsports, and wasn't crazy about the seals that came with those fittings so I switched them out for these fittings from Breeze (https://www.breezeautomotive.com/shop/adapter-fitting-kit-06an-for-87-93-mustang-power-steering-rack/). The Breeze fittings come with o-rings/seals for both chamfered and flat surfaces, as some racks come without the chamfer. These fittings installed nicely, and no leaks.
