Hello all,

As I mentioned some weeks ago during my introduction I just started my build and will share the progress here as much as I can. I ordered a basic kit because I wanted to get my place in line (back in February) and because I was not sure what exactly how I planned to build it. In a nutshell it will be a more "modern" build with a Coyote Gen 3, manual, dark blue with matte black finish. I`m a horsepower fan (used to build rally cars in the past) so the HP will be there, but by the end it still going to be a weekend ride. I`m using this forum a lot to understand the process and steps and it is fun to see that are 3000 ways to build this car!!!:)

I received my kit in the end of August and had to finish some home improvements before I could start the build. It officially started this past weekend.

Hope you guys enjoy!

Let`s start with the famous delivery pic!:

I did build the frame dolly as most of us. (forgot who placed all dimensions and step by step build, but thanks!!!;) )

Removed the body from the frame (had to rent a trailer to take the body to the storage)

And I`m ready to start the build.

So. Been quite for a while but things are moving along. As everyone else, I started with the "F" plate and front suspension, Installed as well averything I have from the rear suspension, but FFR is really behind with a bunch of parts and that will stall my build very shortly.156559156560156561

Next step now is to replace the seals of the differential and plug the oil cooling section (honestly do not believe I`ll need a cooled rear diff.)

In case someone wonders the side (for the CV Shaft) seal part number is: AL3Z-4B416-A and the plug is 5R3Z-7860108-AA

Post COVID era is hard... I do stumble into missing parts every 5 minutes, FFR does not even answer my emails, I`m missing bolts, nuts, a.o. that`s really annoying it almost takes the fun out of it!
Does anyone knows what is the part number of the steering bearing flange?? I`m about to purchase it in the market instead of waiting forever from FFR...

Well, can't guarantee it, but "10577 pillow block, 3/4" id" brings up this from Grainger (https://www.grainger.com/product/2X899?ef_id=CjwKCAiAv_KMBhAzEiwAs-rX1C7S9KfK_-G8fZyf7fwuox9Ly2T96feZvy_rQ2CXAOMMzzgSWe_QXBoCuQwQ AvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!2966!3!496359977479!!!g!630077959592!&gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:4P7A1P:20501231&gclid=CjwKCAiAv_KMBhAzEiwAs-rX1C7S9KfK_-G8fZyf7fwuox9Ly2T96feZvy_rQ2CXAOMMzzgSWe_QXBoCuQwQ AvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds), which does look familiar. Since I stalled a bit in the suspension part, I`m trying not to stop completely, so I moved into the passenger side panels. lot`s of fun drilling. To be honest I believed it would take me more time.

Someone said here that you cannot have too many Cleco`s, and he is right, never used almost all 200 I have at one time!!!
157934

I painted them last night but the cold weather does not help much in drying, so I probably will re install the panels tonight...

ADI, I was reading through your build and it's looking really good so far. You did a great job on "the skins" and it's all coming together nicely! As for the POL's, I hope that works it self out as soon as it can for you and everyone else too. Keep plugging away with what and where you can. And all the best to on your journey and I'll be following along... Nice work!

ADI

Thanks Doug.

Some more progress last night, I installed and riveted all the passenger side panels, left the inner side not painted so the auto adhesive from the heatshield (I ended purchasing it from Breeze) will better adhere to it.

Does anyone knows why I can`t edit anything on my profile, nor create albums in order to embed the pictures on the thread???

Good tip on the inner skins! I'll make sure to do the same with mine too. I wasn't sure if sharkhide would hinder adhesion, but makes sense to just skip it on the inner side.

As for full access it'a 20 post minimum, but since you're clearly building, contact David Hodgkins with a PM or email message and he can elevate your privileges.

So,, since I do not have enough parts to keep working on, I continue to drill and prep the aluminum panels.

I decided to install a cubby from Breeze (tks btw! super fast shipment!!!)

Pretty standard install. In detail the tool to deburr the panel after cutting / drilling. I recommend this for anyone dealing with metal works (like everyone here!!)

the tool is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RHZ7T5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and this time yes.. I used ALL my Cleco`s!

I`m painting the aluminum panels with Bed Liner and in my first panel I did not like the paint adhesion so much, so I`m sanding it down before painting and it did improve a lot the adhesion, I`m using a grade 50 sand paper on a sander.
You can see the difference (the right one was sanded)

Been quite for a while. Happens when you live in NC and have an assignment in CA!
Last weekend I got some work done and was able to start my Carbon Fiber dash. Bought it from FFR with gauges from Speedhut (red on red).
First step was to cover it with painters tape to avoid any scratches and start with the placement. Dis not wanted to blindly trust FFR aluminum template for my steering wheel shaft, so I used an M8 bolt that fit quite snuggle into the thread in the shaft and using my bench drill and a floppy disk grinder created a center punch.
Worked well:
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=161923&d=1644181644
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=161922&d=1644181644
After that I CLECO it in place but did not like how the bottom part seemed flimsy and wobbly to me, so I added 4 holding brackets using some scrap aluminum:
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=161921&d=1644181644
And finally drilled the holes for the gauges: (used regular hole saw from Diablo, with hand drill and high speed)
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=161920&d=1644181644
Now I`m waiting on the buttons and warning lights to finalize the project.

Ted, I used M5 x 15 - 6 on top and 4 on the bottom - Allen cap screws (black anodized) Not sure how long they will last, but it`s a $2.00 fix and 5 min...

Next I started the accelerator pedal work. For whatever reason my pedal is different from the old ones, so I could not flip the pedal and do all that trimming as other posts showed.

My driving style also calls for a lower location and I started by modifying the FF5 bracket (cut the 90 bend) and used the chassis bracket holes as guide. Also thinking on the future, I do not like the idea of reaching a nut behind the bracket if the pedal ever needs to be replaced This is what I came with:

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163236&d=1646178940https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163234&d=1646178940

Added 2 threads on the side, one is a "stopper" for the plastic housing and the other is for a 1/4"-20 x 2 1/2" screw that have a modified washer to clamp the pedal against the stopper and avoid it to flex (because now it is only supported by the 2 left side screws.

Also added a limiter when pressing the pedal fully to avoid any breakage using the original hole and angle of the FF5 bracket

Tks Steve.

Bought from the parts farm in GA, it belongs to a 2020 Mustang with very low mileage it is really looking good... I`ll just change oil pan and should go right into the the car as is.

Funny answer.. I was looking around and definitively not liking the "out of the box" options,

Then I found these guys here:

Liked the variety of designs and a fare price. After I completed my purchase I found out that the store is in Australia!

I wrote an e-mail on Saturday night about the missing high beam light and Nelson wrote me back on Sunday with a tracking number and a lot of apologies..

If you can zoom into the horn button... :)

Slightly cheaper than the Ford Pack and with the huge advantage of endless programing options...

I`ve build many rally race cars using FT since they began back in Brazil, I`m confident it will work and I`ll post my progress here.
The reason I went with the FT550 is because it handles the gas pedal by wire.

Arrived home from CA and was like X-mas.

After building a prototype for the dash extension, I ended up modifying a bit my initial design and ended up with some angles instead a square box.

This was the prototype:

Then with the angles:
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=165691&d=1650377621

I added some slots so I can slide up and down and adjust better when the center console padding is installed.

Next was a bold move. I purchased a adhesive backing real carbon fiber veneer:
https://dragonplate.com/Twill-Weave-Carbon-Fiber-Veneer-12-x-24
to match the dash and when it arrived I feared that the sheet would not bend around the corners. After some back and forth it ended up quite nice.
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=165685&d=1650376796
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=165684&d=1650376796
Note that I have some clamps on the 120+ degrees angles on the back, since that side will be clamped against the back wall, should hold nicely.

Quick update:

Front brakes arrived finally and are installed
Installed clutch lines for the Ford MT82 trans
Engine is back and installed (hopefully for the last time)
Removed all direct injection hardware and wiring
Engine wiring is finalized and now it`s time to debug all sensors
E-brake is installed and working
Manual rear balancing brake is installed and working

Very close to start the engine at this point.

Next steps:

Custom driveshaft
Seat cushions and upholstery
Cabin heatshield

You can see that the USB cable will also be hosted there, for easy access to plug into a LapTop

New injectors arrived and installed:

Been a very long time since I last posted anything here.

But all this time I was dealing with the Coyote Gen 3 particularities trying to deal with the sensors and stuff. Pioneering the FT550 (Fueltech) to run the Gen3 was not easy. Good thing is that it is FINALY alive !!!!

In order to get this I had to make some sensor and part changes.

for the ones trying to do it here are some of the details:

Crankshaft Sensor.
Coyote Gen 3 uses a Hall sensor but with some electronics that only Ford knows how to decipher it and no way I could get it to read. My option was to use the Gen2 sensor that is inductive. (The clack sensor is from the GEN3)

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=183668&d=1682692895

These sensor are the same size BUT the Gen2 is thinner on the tip and you will need a bushing to keep it from wobbling.

When I installed it I ran with the original GEN3 trigger wheel which is 60-2 and would loose sync when the engine started, probably because the Induction sensor would not count properly the small teeth.
This made me have to take out the transmission (such an easy job...LOL), clutch a.o. to install the trigger wheel from the Gen2, this one is 36-1 and the sensor reads it perfectly.

You can see the differences here:
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=183667&d=1682692895

AS FYI This is how it looks like when Cyl#1 is at TDC:

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=183666&d=1682692895

The thick sharpie mark is the missing tooth.

After that I had to change the TPS as well. It is also an electronic design that could not be read used the F150 one that has 6 wires instead of 5 (double reading) and is P&P.

Couple of changes in the programming and it fire right up!!!

I have a question, I was not following this forum last year but I just saw the Carbon fiber veneer you used. Impressive! I was looking for something to do with the transmission cover to incorporate carbon fiber without having to make one. Do you think that would work and be durable for that purpose?

Question for others-has any one used this on any panels in their build, thinking engine bay, trunk? asking for a friend...

If you look back some posts, you will see that the under dash module I build I used aluminum plus a Carbon fiber self adhesive. (not vinyl veneer) it worked well but because I do not have any sharp bends. I`m pretty sure you will not be able to bend it hard. That thing is tough!

But I guess It would work well on the flat panels.

Got some (good) news.

FINALLY got the Coyote to work properly. was a ride but we have figured it out...

Took it last week down to GA into FuelTech dyno and Cameron (tuning wizard) tuned it up in 3 maps (Racing, Street and Rookie)

Ended up @ 466.5HP at the wheel. not bad... :)

RPM seems high? My Aluminator red lines at 8K. I would think a crate Gen 3 would be closer to 7K.
Really high HP numbers at the wheels.
Nicely Done!
Can you post the dyno sheet?

That RPM is from the Dyno, I believe he was in 4th gear, should be around 6700 rpm. I forgot the dyno sheet, but asked the guys to send me and I`ll post soon

This is honestly one of the best interiors I have seen. Just really great work.

Question, how did you setup your turn signal switch and where did you source your wheels?

Thanks for the compliment!!!
Many are asking me about the turn signal.
I used a VW turn signal witch kind looks more modern to match the interior. And I designed a 3D print housing for it. And yes, it does include the automatic cancelling with a sleeve that is attached to the shaft.
I`m actually redesigning the housing to better match the dash angle now. but it works pretty well and the ergonomics is also ok.

The wheels are from Konig Racing (Dekagram model), bought it through Summit Racing - KNG-DK08514185 and KNG-DK98514355 are the part numbers.

Good news!

I decided to drive it around on Gelcoat only until the winter comes, so the build is in its final stages! Can`t wait to put it on the road!
