View Full Version : Anyone heard of a Big Bore 400CI Windsor motor?

Hello All,
I was playing around with my calculator today and after reading some of the engine discussions I was curious if anyone had built or seen built a 400CI 351W based motor? I was looking at a 3.85'' stroke from a 393 but a big bore 4.125'' piston. From what I have read here on the forum, the 4.125 bore "unshrouds the valves" and makes more power. With the stroke and 6.2'' rods the rod ratio would be more favorable.
Any thoughts?

I like it.
My 427W is 4.125 x 4 and it spins.
If the 400 is built with good parts, solid roller lifters and shaft mounted rockers you'd be able to spin it. The sound is wonderful.
You're going to need big heads and 1-7/8 to 2 headers. Then a Super Victor and 750-850 carb.
Don't cheap out on the parts.
I would consider a build like this. If you're not going to spin it you might as well build a 427.

I have done several, 4.125 bore 3.75 stroke will spin 8000 revs plus all day. Super fun engines.

Mines 432ci with a 4.00 stroke.

Super Fun is more or less the theme of my build so it sounds like this might fit. Its a good thing the new TKX will rev to 8k. Might be too much for a trackable streetcar though.

Size matters. 400CI should be considered the minimum displacement for one of these cars. The bigger the more fun. I vote you go 400 plus. And don't forget power adders, they can also be super fun.

Heck, now I guess I need to punch my 383 out to 400. (Dart Block)
Can I leave the 383 emblems on my car?
