Anyone on here use Breeze's Koolmat insulation kit for heat/sound reduction? I see that some have used Thermo-Tec which can be purchased from Summit. This might be cheaper than the kit at Breeze, but the kit has all the pieces precut which would save some time.

I can't help you with the brand, but from what I know, car sounds insulation consists of 3 separate layers - dampening, sound isolation, and mass-loaded vinyl.

For my build I just used butyl mat - small square covering ~30% of the panel, centered. On top, a layer of closed cell foam. Didn't bother with the vinyl. Seems to work great. As for heat, you would insulate the engine bay.

I used Thermo-tech on my build not a big deal to cut it and apply yourself, just use some good sharp shears/razor blades. I ended up using 6 rolls for the entire car.

Thanks guys. Fman, you used six 3x5 rolls. Did that cover the rear wall of the cockpit?

I used the cool mat from Breeze. The pre cut pieces require some minor trimming, but I found it easy to install and it performs great.

I got it all done using 4 rolls of the Thermo-Tec (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004PILLZG/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_TAA7Z6PHP87AT7033QY2?_encodin g=UTF8&psc=1) from Amazon. I did the entire cockpit but not the trunk. It was a bigger job than I imagined and it might be beneficial to buy the pre-cut from Breeze to save you time on a tedious part of the build.

I noticed too that the price per roll has gone up $15.52 since I bought it 2½ years ago.

Used Thermo-Tec on all outside surfaces that are exposed to heat.

All interior of the cockpit including transmission tunnel & cover is lined with Reflectix attic insulation from Home Depot. Its a sandwich of outer layers of aluminum foil over an inter bubble plastic core..

Its covered with the carpeting & Naugahyde

The X frames below the door were covered the same way once the speakers were installed.

I used the koolmat kit firm Breeze, both the back wall and cockpit and they worked great. All the pieces are labeled and very little cutting needed to make them fit

Six rolls did everything in the cockpit, footbox, trunk and firewall as well. Basically every piece on the car that could be insulated. I did the trunk for sound reasons, not sure how much this really helps but figured I was already all in why not just do everything.

Thanks to all who responded. For those who used the Breeze kit, what adhesive did you use? I wonder if the 3M spray contact adhesive used for carpet would work?

I used 3M super 77 spray adhesive then silicone on all the joints between the individual sheets

Used 3M99. Sun gets real hot here holds better than the regular 3M

I used 4 rolls of Thermo Tech. That covered everything (transmission tunnel on both sides) except the trunk which I did not cover. It was easy to cut. I didn’t know mark was pre cutting it but I wouldn’t have spent the extra.
