I put a sandwich plate on my filter connection and added sensors for oil temp and pressure to the sandwich plate. Temp sensor quit because the wires melted together 5 inches from the plate due to its proximity to the exhaust. While crawling around under there, I saw that I’ve been skidding alone sometimes on my oil pan. It is the lowest thing hanging down under the car. I think my pan is stock. It measures 6 3/4 inches from the engine block to its lowest point. Why haven’t I read that everyone has this problem? I have a stock EJ20 JDM motor. As usual, I’m asking what I did wrong and how can I get my 818 to use only the tires to make contact with the asphalt? I will figure out some shielding for the wires after I repair them.

I got longer bolts and put a 1/2" spacer between my motor mount and the engine block. 1/2" may not sound like much, but it might be all that is needed - it's all I needed with a Killer B pan.

Bob Boig designed a skid plate to protect the pan. He gave me one to test but I have never gotten around to mounting it. You are welcome to it if you want to give it a try.

Earlier this year I bought my un-completed 2014 kit using a 2002 donor. I set out to critique the previous two owner's work and have found FFR culpability as well. My pan is 3/4 inch or more below the frame. I recently commented on a thread about the pitch-down angle causing the transaxle lube to to be deep in front and shallow in back. This puts the differential and trans at risk. The common correction is to drop the transmission mount, which cantilevers the engine up, but not much. I eventually will raise the engine, which will correct the transaxle issue too. Like other design issues, it appears once in production, defects are ignored in favor of new products.

I designed (in my head) a skid plate and bought the raw materials to fabricate it, but after lifting the engine just 1/2", the skid plate went from highest priority to maybe some day. I'd be curious to see a picture of the Bob Boig skid plate.

I have a friend with a GTM. A few days ago he had it jacked up and we were crawling around under it (running a new clutch hydraulic hose hoping it would ease the insanely hard effort needed to press the clutch peddle - it didn't). His oil pan which is a special shallow heavy duty built to take a scrape pan is a solid 1.5" below the frame rails and there is a cable that runs under the oil pan clearing the ground by probably only 2". His GTM is awesome! But, when I see his GTM issues and what it takes to work on that car... we got it easy with our 818's.

Attached are a couple of pics of Boig's skid plate. I've not fitted it, but am sure it would become the new lowest point on the car. 155081155082
