View Full Version : How Do You Make A Ferrari Disappear?

The answer is - park a Cobra next to it. I’ve heard that joke several times and never really thought too much about it. However this weekend I participated in a local car show and proved it to be true. At my friends suggestion I entered in the exotics section along side some very wonderful automobiles. Porsche, BMW, McLaren, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, and yes a magnificent Ferrari 488 GTB were included in the group. Want to guess where the crowd was? Standing around the Cobra.
If you are working on your build and getting frustrated, or considering a build or purchase of a FFR car, know that you are participating in something special and take heart. The beauty and performance of these cars is something truly unique. At 55+ years of age they still “have it.” To all of us who are currently stewards of these cars, I hope you are enjoying the experience as much as I am.
Cheers,
Jeff

I agree. My garage contains an Fcar and the FFR. If someone comes over we end up talking about the FFR. Just more fun to talk about what you built instead of what you bought! Not everyone can build a car.

I know the feeling.
This past weekend got a chance to cruise with the Artmobilia group in Indy.
The Ferrari guys let me in the mix with their group for the drive around the countryside
When we got to our destination it was fun to see people just walk by and look all over the FFR and ask the same question over and over again..."is this yours???....what is it???..

Same with Corvettes!
This past Sunday I ended up behind a 1956 Corvette. We were both turning left into a Home Depot ( I was going to Home Depot ). He pulled in to park and I pulled in to park next to him. As I was getting out of my car he was staring at me and not with a smile. I was about to say "nice car" to him and he pulled out and drove off. I was... just wow.. wow.

You are absolutely right. I went to a car show last Sunday mainly because my friend was there with his 70 Corvette. I pulled into the parking lot and found an empty space, opened the hood and walked away to find my buddy, not even giving a thought to my car. when he asked me if I brought my car I said yea over there, but you couldn't see it for the people standing around it. It made me feel good but I thought these cars were more prevelant then they are. These cars are just plain sexy. No other way to put it.
Open the hood and it is like a moth to the flame, I also chuckle when I hear someone make a comment about it being a kit car that just goes right together, like it is a small model car you glue and snap together in a few hours;)
Nice looking rides BTW! both green and red look really sweet... looks like a fun gathering, always cool to see all different types of cars.

Beautiful cars guys. What shade of green are you guys running on your cars? I've been toying with going green instead of blue.

For awhile I had a C7 vette, a GTM, a 911 and a roadster all in my garage. When people would stop by, most were interested in the roadster way more than any of the other cars. Seems to be part nostalgia, some just know or have heard about the roadster and just want to understand more. Always an attention getter.

f5r That video is great. Tough crowd; is the "22" a thing in New England?
I do not see that level of exotic in WI, maybe in Chicago.
Around here, the exhibitions of speed would make subsequent shows unlikely.

Wimbledon white stripe and the green is actually a Nissan color. I think it was the same as British racing green. If you need the code, let me know I have a can in the shop.
If I ever built another FFR I would go with no stripe and undercar exhaust. I really like the look of those builds.

Headed to the Festival of Speed at the Ritz Carleton this weekend. Cobra made invitation! LOTS of high tech Ferraris, Lambos, McLaren's, etc going to be there. The Cobra will have good company and the 427 makes one heck of an entrance. Let you know if it makes any of them 'disappear'. :)

Geeeee Wizzzzzz,
It makes Porsches Disappear too.
Found that out at a P.C.A. event that I had recently attended.
I did point out that my car sports 356 Aero-Mirrors to make them feel better.

Corvettes too.
One evening many years ago, on our way home from a car show, my wife and I stopped by the grocery store to grab something to cook for dinner.
I parked at the end of the aisle, two down from a beautiful brand new Corvette, leaving an empty space between the cars.
Two middle aged guys from the Corvette were walking into the store ahead of us. I heard a kid behind us, back by the cars, say loudly "WOW!! Look at that car!!". Then one of the guys from
the Corvette said to his buddy: "I hear that a lot!", and we all turned around to see 4 to 5 people standing around my cobra, completely ignoring the invisible Corvette.
I was very proud. When my wife and I turned around the Corvette guys had continued into the store, without saying a word.

Got invited to a Super Bowl VIP Party quite a few years ago at one of the local casinos (I live in Vegas). Took the Cobra . . . Got there and was looking for a place to park as valet looked full. The valet guy said; "hang on a moment . . . "
He proceeded to "clear a space" for me, right next to a Ferrari (red of course) and then set the roped poles around my car so as to keep people from getting too close. Many hours later at the end of the game, I went out to leave and a small crowd had gathered around the roped in Cobra . . . Ferrari guy was there just getting in to his car, no one around it, He kinda shot me a dirty look and left in a hurry (obviously his "status in life" had been knocked down a notch or two). Took me another 20 minutes to leave with all the questions I was happy to answer. Needless to say, the valet guy was tipped accordingly to show my appreciation for his assistance.

Similar experience - twice I went to the big mall in my area around the holidays. They have rock star parking between two expensive restaurants and valet to a regular lot. The rock star parking is usually populated by McLarens and the like, so expected to have mine taken to the regular lot, nope they put it one of the 7 spots right there! When I came back the crowd of people were around my car and the valet said no charge...good tip for him!
