There has been much documented on the infamous sun visor screws particularly as they relate to broken windshields. I know Doctor Kleiner has a great work around that mounts them to the top rail to avoid this. I plan on using the removable top and do not want to take the visors off to install it.

There has been some debate about the size of the screws. Whatever FFR had been doing over the years I can tell you with confidence they have moved to a metric screw at least for my build.

It's an M3 x .5. They are shorter too. I mocked them up and they do not protrude like the old ones did. I am guessing FFR made a change. The second photo is the imperial 32

I used some washers to pull them away

Washers work... put them under the fastener head so you’ll have more bearing surface between the mounting tab and frame. A small blob of clear silicone helps too!

I agree with you Blitz. I got mine a month ago and when I went to check on the depth they were pretty good right out of the box. I very gently snugged them and if they tightened down before the play was out of the mount then I knew they were too long. I only came across 2 that did that. I was so scared though I went ahead ground down all of the screws even more to ensure they would not make contact.

Just don't tap the holes out or you might crack the glass. (asked me how I know)

I'll second that, but if you have to don't use a pointed tap. Get the tap that isn't pointed, they are called various names, but commonly referred to as bottoming tap.

I used 2 stainless washers between mount/windshield and some red locktite. It was enough to get thread grip without contact of the glass. 6000 miles and no issues, works perfect.
