I have always wanted to build a factory 5 Cobra mark 4 I am getting ready to sell my house and downsize and and then I will be ordering my full complete kit I'm just trying to get some information together and sort out a engine transmission and rear end. I'm looking for a ls all aluminum eng with a automatic transmission im just confused about what year ford rear end that will fit without cutting an welding with a 3 link Thanks

Welcome, Gary, I'm originally from Springfield but our family moved to Va. when my Dad's govt job moved in 1958. I'm sure you'll get the info you need on the forum, lots of very helpful folks here.

IRS = Super 8.8 center section and knuckles/hubs from a 2015+ Mustang. Lots of variations in case material and internals. But exterior is the same for all. No cutting or welding. The rest of the IRS is provided with the Factory Five IRS option.
Solid Axle = Fox Mustang width 8.8. But frequently updated with new 5-lug axles and converted to disk brake. No cutting or welding to get the proper width. An SN-95 axle can be used. Often is cut down, which isn't a big deal for the right shop if you can't do it yourself. Can be used as is with proper brake components, wheels, and limiting the width of the rear tires. I'm far from an expert on that subject. But those are the key points as I understand them.
