Hello Forum Friends,

RT makes a great product and the issue I am having does not reflect on anything negative with his turn signal kit. I am having a problem with angles. After sending Russ photos and discussing on the phone, it looks as if my steering bracket may have been welded to the frame a bit high. You can see in the photo it sits higher than the 2 x 2 tube by almost 1/8". I have relocated the flange bearing to inside the footbox and trimmed off as much as I could to get it as high as I can mount it in its opening in the footbox front wall. I was hoping this would counteract the bracket issue but no luck.

So, the way I see it I have 3 options:

(A) create some type of shim to fill the gap
(B) cut off the bracket and hire a welder to reweld it lower
(C) return the turn signal kit and go with the kit supplied toggle

Any other options you guys can think of? Things to be concerned about?153290153291153292

Thanks!

I had the same issue with my MK IV build and RT turn switch. I just made shims to match the shaft angles, moving the steering wheel up, so you would need to modify the dash hole. The finished dash looks good and gives more knee room for getting in and out.

I also placed the directional switch as tight as possible to provide max room...153305

Thanks!
Did you make your shims from aluminum?

Yes, much easier to work with...

I had to shim mine also. Otherwise the angles will start putting excessive force on the shaft and cause steering to be too tight, or not return/self center to a neutral position on it's own. When shimmed and all together, then tighten things up ensuring that the wheel spins freely without drag as you do so.
