A few weeks ago my wife and I were out cruising in 9189 and stopped for lunch. We sat by a window keeping the car in view and as we dined, watched as several people came over for a closer look. One guy took a particular interest in it and took several pictures. When we returned to the car, we found an invite to attend the 2nd Annual Festival Of Speed & Style - a combination car and fashion show held on the main-street of Alexandria.

While I never intended to show 9189, I thought it might be fun, so I entered and had showcarsillustrated.com make a show board for me - I figured that I could use it as garage wall art afterwords. I also made a scrapbook showing the build progression for display.

A total of 88 cars and 14 motorcycles showed, and while 9189 didn't win anything, what fun! At specified times, all drivers started and revved their engines in a collective roar. There was a ton of interest in Factory Five, and non-stop questions from prospective builders. I also met some nearby current builders who are new friends. Check out these beauties:

Nice! I enjoy an occasional car show and talking to folks too. Your car looks great. Nice sign too.

Thanks. I think they could have chosen something different for the background music though - a little more car related perhaps.

Last week I had 9189 in a car show. Twenty years ago, I was fortunate to be in an office of the Pentagon directly on the opposite side where American Airlines Flight 77 impacted. Ironically, the First Officer on board AA Flight 77 was a friend from college. Things would have been very different for me had the airplane approached at a steeper angle.

Tomorrow I'll take 9189 cruising, but will pull over at 09:37 to remember those in the Pentagon less fortunate, and to count my blessings. My decision to build 9189 was influenced in part by 9-11 to not take life for granted.
