View Full Version : Preferred Aftermarket Oil Pan for the Coyote?

I have a 2nd Gen Coyote that is being installed in a 70 Mustang restomod. I knew the OEM oil pan dropped below the front crossmember, but did not realize just how much until I positioned a straight edge and drew a line across the pan with a silver Sharpe. I need a minimum of 1 1/4" and ideally 1 1/2" of additional clearance to bring a new pan up to level with the bottom of the crossmember. The engine and trans are coming out for the last time before body, paint and reassembly, so now is the time to make the switch.

Is there a preference between the Canton and Moroso pans? First I need the additional clearance. Second I plan on occasionally autocrossing the car, maybe even a track day or two. Not racing mind you, just fun and exploring what the car can do. I would want improved oil control and pickup over the OEM pan.

Please provide some feedback as to issue one may have had or if you just liked the pan and it you and I need.

Thanks,

Alan

I bought a Coyote Aluminator Gen 1 crate engine. It had a multi baffled pan with all kinds of oil control internal design.
Naturally it would not fit in the roadster. If you think this pan might work, I want to sell it.
I can measure the depth from the pan rail, if that will help. It comes with the Ford pick.

I have the moroso pan on a gen 2 coyote. It takes close to 9 quarts of oil, but there's plenty of clearance. In fact, the quick time bell housing is lower than the pan.

What is the part number you used as I believe there are a couple of Moroso pans for the Coyote.

Alan, if the question is directed to me, which I suspect it is, I can't give you a definitive answer. Looking at the invoice from Mike Forte (who I purchased the engine and related parts from) I see that the item number on the invoice is "MOR COY" for the oil pan. Sorry, not much help here.

you can reference much of the part numbers in this installation guide:

The correct Moroso oil pan for the gen 2 coyote in a roadster is this one:

https://www.moroso.com/ford-5-0-modular-cobra-replica20570/

However, that may or may not be the correct one for a 70 Mustang. Probably best to call Moroso and get their input.

Thanks for the link. Looking at Summit Racing and Moroso websites, they show a steel pan as PN 20571. Do you know if this is a replacement for the 20570 or a different pan. Listed as rear sump 6.67 depth, which is what I need.

20570 and 20571 are different pans. There are at least 10 different Moroso oil pans shown on their site for the coyote, depending application. If you go on the Moroso site and search on "coyote oil pan" you'll see all your options.

Thanks John. I looked at the specs for the Moroso Coyote oil pans. The only pan that is shallower is the the same one you guys are using for the roadsters, the 20570.
Gordon Levy recommended I reach out to Mike Forte as he has a pan and pickup package.
