I have a T5 transmission that when I went to hook up the speedo cable noticed it was an electronic sender.
Reading online in seeing multiple discussions that you can just buy a specialized cable for $30ish, or you have to get a special unit to in the transmission followed by some argument back and forth.

Has anyone done this, and know what is correct?

I'm using the ultralite speedometer from autometer.
I thought about just getting a GPS speedometer and moving on. If that's the case, anyone want to buy an auto lite with 0.9 miles on the odometer? :)

Some of the senders will accept a cable. If yours doesn’t, get one for a 1987 mustang. It should accept the cable and the electrical plug

Confused a bit by your question. When you say "cable" are you referring to an actual mechanical spinning cable between the transmission and the gauge? Like in the old days? Don't see where the Ultralite speedometer from Autometer uses an actual cable. Looks like it only uses an electronic speed control input. As Mike said, there are two versions of the speed control sensor for the T5. One that uses a spinning cable and has a plug for the electronic signal. Those were used in early on. The other version has the plug only when the cable was eliminated and the gauges were 100% electronic. I think that's the one you want. You may need to buy an pigtail with the proper plug to go into the sensor. Maybe that's what you're asking about?
