I've read lots about power steering UCA's including being installed on the wrong side, dimensions in the assy manual, and bolts being installed up side down. I'm not using power steering and don't see any difference in the 2 UCA's. Do I still need to trim the sleeves? Are there dimensions I should pre set at? Thanks again for the help it is really appreciated.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm building a roadster MKIV without power steering. So I guess my question is:
-Do I need to trim the sleeves on the upper control arms?
- Are there rough dimensions that should be set prior to installation?

Thank you in advance for the help,
Doug S.

If you are not running power steering, you will not need to trim the UCA sleeves. Use the dimensions in the manual and that will get you in the ball park to start with. Of course you will still want to do a full alignment on all 4 corners....

no need to trim sleeves for manual steering. pay attention to the pics it the manual. I recall that my UCAs needed to be disassembled and reassembled to get the zerk fittings pointing in the correct direction. Most importantly, the ball joint needs to be angled out. The manual also shows the UCAs as mirror images of each other, which is not the case. one control arm will have the welded side facing the front while the other will be facing the rear.
if you have trouble getting the BJs to thread down into the UCA, remove them and take off the anticorrosive material on the threads. These prevented me from threading them down all the way and led to a whole host of issues trying to get them unthreaded.
