I recently lost dial illumination. The hands of each gauge light up but not the outer dials. There are only 2 wires!!! The white feed and a black ground. I have tried an external 12v source to confirm ground but i still get the same result. I try to do minimal night driving but this is nagging me.
Thanks
Did you check the headlight switch to be sure it isn't cranked all the way dim?

I did......but could be bad switch. Not the first time. I did not think the dials and the hands were separate.

What brand gauges (kind of an important point) and how old are they? For years Speedhut (if that's what they are) had separate circuits for needles and backlighting. And the backlighting required an inverter. More recent versions are all LED with only a single lighting circuit.

Assuming nothing else is wrong (wiring or whatever) those inverters have been known to die. They're what supply the AC current for that style of backlighting. Both needles and backlighting are powered by the same lighting circuit on the chassis side. If Ron Francis harness, it's a white wire.

New inverter did the trick. When it comes to electrical i hate that i always assume it is something i did! I never think its a bad component.152959

Having same issue. All gauges installed and function with the exception of the dash lighting. Any chance of getting info for ordering (part No. and where)?
Would very much appreciate.

Call Speedhut. They know that their inverters are problematic and will replace it.

They only have one A-166 and it ran me $19. i reran the whole harness but might have been easier to just splice the inverter in.

As a late comer to the posting, can I ask you you made out? I bought the Speedhut gauges with the ice cube size inverters and dimmer switch but have not yet installed or tried them yet. In trying to head off imminent problems, I am wondering if I should change out the Sp Hut inverter for an aftermarket one, just use the FFR dimmer on the light switch (I have read it does not do much dimming at all) or some other option. Any help is appreciated. Happy 2022!

Inverter was the issue. Not sure why it failed after 6 years.
