View Full Version : Power steering boot keeps coming off
I installed a FF power steering conversion on my mark IV. After a time, I had the roadster up on the lift to do periodic inspection. I noticed the boot on the passenger side had come off the rack where it is clamped. It appears that an extreme turn to the left (as in parallel parking) has pulled the boot off.
When this new rack was installed FF said to use the extenders. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this is happening?

Is the boot rubbing against the square frame? The Breeze offset rack bushings are made to push the rack forward to reduce or eliminate this rubbing (in addition to allowing you to adjust the rack location).
Is the boot rubbing against the rack mount bracket? F5 recommends grinding down the bracket to eliminate the rubbing.

The boot IS rubbing the square frame. I am wondering why F5 did not have a warning or better yet a fix when I ordered this PS conversion from them.
I will check with Breeze. Thanks again for the help.

I had this problem and the Breeze mounts fixed it.

I replaced mine with Moog boots. They were a little longer. It was years ago, so I don't know the part number.

As Avalanche says, there are also longer boots. I 'think' Breeze has them.
