Still looking to find who has aluminum spats and where to get them. I personally like the way they look and think they would look good on my car as well as being functional. Need to find out who sells them.

Don’t let the fact these folks are in England sway you. I have bought several things from them and they are good to deal with with fast shipping even across “the pond“.

Papa, if I might ask how did you attach them to your car?

I used 3M two-sided molding tape:

I would have pointed you to Wayne but didn’t realize he had them.

Yup Wayne is the man for these. They are really nice after you buff and shine them.
Every once in a while (well, maybe daily), it's fun to take a contrarian view on things. Are you committed to aluminum spats? What about clear film spats? I think they work as well and you don't even notice them. OK, I'll be quiet now.

Al,
I actually started with 3M clear film on mine, but with the amount of grit on our Colorado roads, they simply started getting chewed up and that's what drove me to aluminum. Even my aluminum are taking a real beating, but I can go back and re-polish them to get them looking good again.

I like the idea of the clear wrap, and I also like the polished aluminum. Both are great. The aluminum is supposed to protect the paint, which it does, but I don't know how hard they would be to get off without scratching or digging the paint that they are suppossed to protect. I like the way they look.

Removal, assuming you use the 3M trim tape, is easy. A bit of fishing line will cut through the adhesive without damaging the paint, then a shot of Goo-Gone or WD-40 will safely remove the remaining adhesive.

Dental floss like glide work well with the slightly waxed coating. It works great at removing emblems from the body as well. Just get the dental floss behind the tape or emblem and move it back-and-forth.
Those of you that got them from Wayne - was the shape a good fit for the mk 4?

I had to work one side a bit to get a little more curve in it, but overall they fit well. No trimming of the spats was needed.

Mine were just deleivered this morning, they are a bit rougher looking than I thought they would be. Going to take a bit if finishing to make them look good.

They do need to be polished, but can be brought to a mirror finish with a bit of elbow grease. I have a small headed polisher that I use to maintain them on the car. I just tape off the surrounding painted surfaces of the car and it only takes a few minutes to shine them right back up again. I use a little Shark Hide to protect them between polishing.

Yours look beautiful. I will get mine to that shine but it's going to take some work. Mine, the edges are very rough and one edge needs some trimming to make it symetric. I'll get them there.

Remember that the car isn't symmetric, so fit accordingly.
but your "curve" fit the shape without further bending it? - and don't lie to us - you had those chromed for shows!

I had to adjust one side to get the curve to fit better. Not chromed -- see what they look like after a 1000 miles on our gritty roads.

Wow, and that would be your paint if nothing was there! Mine just showed up at home and when I get back from this trip I’ll post up pics of the freshly minted pieces.
Cheers

Papa,
Is there a gap on the outside edge between the car and the spat. Do you have a picture from the side that shows how the spat follows the edge of the wheel arch?
