Has there ever been such a thing as a dedicated "kit car show" (by whatever name) ? Having been to a number of shows in Indiana this year with my recently finished 818 build, I've learned that kit cars are rarely at these shows and yet I can't get a minute in my lawn chair as I'm talking to 3 to 12 or more looking at my car. Other cars around me the owners are parked on their butt's pretty much and people walk by, look in, etc. But judging categories don't allow for kit cars. More important to me at this point rather than judging/awards is really that the visiting public at these shows seems extremely interested in what people build from kit resources, and I am wondering if they wouldn't visit shows dedicated to kit cars.
This can't possibly be a new idea and maybe has been well proven to not pan out. But I want to at least snoop into what you guys might know or have to say about both any history re- kit car shows up to now and whether it is a ridiculous idea to pursure or has possibilites, or is already well established and I am just not in the know.
Mostly I'm talking a Midwest thing, maybe centered out of Indianapolis given the "race city heritage"...
Is Huntington Beach the be-all end-all of the kit show or is there hope for the rest of the country?
Thanks in advance - now shoot your arrows !

Art, There was a local car show north of MKE early this year with a Forum member Roadster and a recently completed 33 coupe (professional) that was the star of the show. Maybe it went on too long over a weekend as the FFR entries had no spokesmen. With fewer than 50 cars the $20 spectator fee was a disincentive.
The summer shows here are fewer in number for 2020 & 2021, but kit cars are in attendance. A Back Draft Roadster owner has a show organized tomorrow in Brookfield.

Before Covid I went to the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, CA every year. There were always a few FFR roadsters in the show, and 2 or 3 years ago a mildly customized FFR '33 Hot Rod was in the final 10 cars contending for "World's Most Beautiful Roadster (Best In Show)". I don't think that kit cars per se were not allowed, it's just that most aren't up to the (professionally built / restored) standard of other entrants. Basically, if you pay the entry fee you can get into the show somewhere. GNRS even had a "Suede Palace" which was a separate hall filled with more obviously home built cars.
