Congratulations, and THANK YOU for the well-written blog. I will be using that as I approach inspection. I would say a lot more, but now I'm headed out to the garage to sand, sand, and sand some more. :) You've inspired me.

Do you need to have a visible functioning check engine light?
What about the vin # on the block? My was not readable. Is that an issue?
