View Full Version : Weather Pak connection issue

I was having issues with my blinkers and hazard switch. I narrowed it down to this weather pak connection. When I move or bend certain wires some of the blinkers stop working and then come on again when released. I pulled one of the suspect wires and the connection looks fine to my untrained eye. Does it make sense to just replace the weather pack and replace all the pins etc… or is there something else I should try?

Thanks

If you have a multi-meter it's best to troubleshoot the bad connection to the component level and make a repair on just the bad wire or connection rather than replace all the pins. Just wholesale replacing pins might not fix the problem.

And make sure that your pulling and wiggling wires near that connector is not actually affecting a connection upstream or downstream of your focus area leading you to believe that this connector is the issue.

Good luck.

The housing is just a housing, and really has little to do with the electrical connection that is loose. Remove the wires from the housing, and repin them.

Thanks. I have a multimeter but not my strong suit. Would you mind telling me what to do with it?

Also, compare the connector with a well know good connector to see if there is any difference,

Have you just tried to unplug and plugged the connector back in. make sure that the connector fully seats in. while doing this, check to see if any of the wires back out of the connectors

First move the black wire to the COM slot on the meter

If the off position is at 12 oclock , to measure voltage you would turn the dial clock wise "CW" to the number 17 position where it is labled 20. to measure continuity you would turn the dial from 12 CW to position 8 (has the funny symbols) then touch the red probe to the black probe, you should now hear a beep sound.

I have connected and disconnected it many times. Seems ok but as a very carefully move wires as to not move anything else they intermittently will stop blinking. By moving the wires again slowly a d methodically they start to blink again.

the problem with checking continuity is that you need to disconnect the battery and remove the lights bulbs for each wire that you will check, so say you want to check the wire that goes to the head light you would need to disconnect the wire at the switch and at the light bulb then put one of the meters probes at the disconnected switch wire and the other at the disconnected bulb wire. you should then get a beep move the connector around to see if the sound stops. if the sound stops that could be the troubled wire through the connector.

I hope I made sense

You might be able to narrow the wire down by the wire color, check to see if there is any writing on the wires next to the connector.
