Looking for advise on commencing my build. I found good threads on the body buck and chassis dolly... looks like a good way to go? Any other potential alternatives for chassis support for the build process?
Thanks
John P.

You could post a inquiry to see if there are any around the area you live in. There are lots of body bucks just sitting in garages taking up space after the build is complete that the owner would love to get rid of.

I would definitely think about having them ready on delivery day. It was so nice to just lower the kit out of the semi right on to my dolly. Sure beats having to manipulate jack stands and transfer on to them. If you end up building them I would also consider steel...after pushing my build around a lot I think wood may have started to loosen and flex by now. Also - I would recommend making your dolly a little higher - my frame tubes are 19" high while on mine...makes it so much easier to work on - saves the back!

Good luck!

I have a new chassis dolly in St. Louis, but my body buck has gone through about 4 or five builds and rebuild, so it's not worth saving.

There is a recent post for a body buck and chassis in Charlottesville Va. if you are close. Look at page 3 on this forum.

Thanks all for the advise and suggestions!! I will check in my area.... I am in Grand Rapids MI for both a body back and chassis dolly. Really curious about the right height to build Dolly to try and make the car easier to work on. Sounds like 19" high worked out well for rtbellah.
Thanks

Hi JohnP. Welcome aboard!
I have my body suspended. My ceilings are high (12.5'), but they don't have to be. Frees up floor space, and enables me to raise/lower the body by myself using inexpensive ratcheting ropes. Not sure if that is an option for you, but passing along as food for thought. Here's what mine looks like just in case this interests you:

I borrowed a frame dolly (wood) from a fellow builder (thanks again, SteveP!), and it puts the 4" chassis tubes 14" off the ground. Used it until I recently hit roller stage, and it worked well at that height.
