I think I want to just have a dummy oil cooler that's not hooked up, just for the look. What do you guys think about cheap eBay ones like this? Has anyone tried these? Also, what would be the best way to install?

I had a working oil cooler but decided I didn’t need it and it was just more hoses and potential leak points with no real benefit for a non-raced car. Henry and I simply cut the lines going to and from the cooler under the body so they don’t come out anywhere. You see the cooler and lines and no one has ever noticed the lines aren’t visible coming back into the engine bay. Mount it just like you were going to use it. Do it. It’ll look good. Hard to see it in this pic.

Why not install a real cooler and lines but also put an inline thermostat. That way if you ever need the cooler it will work as required and always look good.

Plumbing it in with stainless flex hose and an fittings looks perfect. I have installed them in several cobras and surprisingly even in cold new england they occaisonally due get warm enough to open the thermostat (240 degrees ).

If you are going to all the trouble to mount /plumb one I'd go ahead and make it functional. If you are worried about the oil not coming up to temp, I usually keep mine covered with a single strip of duct tape that I pull off when it gets over 30*C (July & Aug) and/or at a track day. Scott

As johnnybgoode said, if your going through all the effort to mount and spend the money on parts (especially the AN connectors), then just plumb in manual ball valves (example: Canton Racing Products 24-260 - Canton Racing Accusump Manual Ball Valves) to block it off. I do have an old oil cooler, fittings and braided lines that I will never use again. They were in use when a previous motor block failed spreading metal pieces all through the oiling system. Most parts could be cleaned, but not the cooler, so it's wall art, or in your case a dummy oil cooler. If interested we can probably make a deal (send PM). But I must say again, mounting and running the lines... I'd install one that works.

Ok thank you for the comments. I suppose it does make sense to do a real one if I am going through all the trouble to mount a fake one. As far as a theromstat, what would you recommend?

There are various ones available. I'd search Speedway or Summit under their racing products.

If you are running power steering, and not racing the car, then consider using the oil cooler for the power steering system.
It serves a good purpose while solving an issue that is worth addressing.

My engine runs cool so an oil cooler would be a bad idea. I installed one from EBay and love the look. Just ran the lines and hid the ends. Looks better when you fill in the “mouth” on the front end. 152531
