Fuel mileage?

Well, I finally checked my fuel mileage after 2900 mi and I'm getting 21.7 mpg. Combination of freeway, mountain and backroads. Stock 89 5.0 EFI w/3.55 rearend. Is this about average for my setup? Thanks,Jim.

I'm pretty sure that is roughly about the same as I am getting, running the 3.55's with a fairly stock 90 5.0 EFI. I like the combo, as the 3.55's make the car pretty darn perky through the lower gears..:)

I expect you find, like myself, that you rarely run in 5th gear, unless your on the highway. I'm sure highway fuel mileage would be far better than 22mpg. With speeds up to around 40mph, I find the car is happiest overall in third gear, so that sucks a tad more fuel. Over 40 and up to about 55mph I find fourth gear is fine. I could run it in fifth more, but it tends to lug the engine a bit at the lower speeds. Once I get above 55mph it's OK in fifth.

Freshly built 302 with Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads, stage 1 cam, Street Heat intake using 24# injectors and 70MM throttle body along with a T5 and 3.55 rear. Around town it runs about 15MPG but on a recent 200 mile all interstate trip it pulled down over 25 while cruising at 75 MPH!

If you're getting anymore than 5mpg you're doing it wrong.
