View Full Version : 4.6L hydroboost, interferes with body aluminum?

I'm using the 96 Cobra 4.6l hydroboost, and it's looking like I won't be able to install the elephant ears for the wheel well properly. For whatever reason my manual does not have the installation instructions for some of the body aluminum, like these panels (I've been through it slowly time and time again to make sure). So I'm going by pictures online.
Do I just cut a small relief hole, or bend the panel, or install it further forward? Thanks in advance. 152206152207

David,
I just cut a relief hole in the elephant ear.

I've seen where someone used a aluminum dog or mixing bowl as a solution.

I used a shallow SS cup holder. I flattened the rim of the cup holder to attach it more securely to the aluminum panel. I used Ultra Black silicone to attach the cup holder. Worked great with no unfinished hole left in the panel. Just one approach.
For a source of the cup holder, it was a gaming supply place out of Vegas. They have many different sizes and depths for their game table cup holders. I used a different size for two cup holders in the trans tunnel cover.

I love the ingenuity! I'll attach a cup holder. :)

Its a common interference issue and others posted good ideas.
I used a small/shallow stainless bowl I found on amazon. I think it was actually a cat bowl. Also trimmed the rim down on it and riveted it on. Its Powder Coated and then bedliner on the wheel side.
