I ordered the Trunk gas strut kit with my car, pn 16590. The kit came with c-shaped trunk hinges which I drilled a hole in for the gas strut connection, but the pressure is not enough to keep the lid open. Should I have received different hinges with the kit for more leverage?

wrong hinges. the correct ones should have a tab at the bottom of the "C" for more leverage.

That's what I was afraid of...Guess I have to shoot an email to FFR asking them nicely to send me a set, as i never received them. Of course, now I'm going to have to relocate the forward mounting as the struts will interfere with my seat belt mounting bar, but no biggie. Thank you for the info.

Before you do anything, you might try tightening the bolt and nut at the pivot point first. I went from 30# to 40# struts to keep the lid up, with no help. Went back to the 30# ones and snugged up the pivot point bolt. Lid moves up and down smoothly and stays where ever you stop it.

Ignore my struts, I did mine a little different but you can see what he hinges are supposed to look like.

Hey Blitz - does your strut setup work well? I also have the Breeze cubby wall, so don't really want to notch through that wall. Does your setup push the trunk up like some folks had w/ some of the other strut kits?

It works really well, I have been pleased. Some folks prefer to drill through to save space but I like how it looks and functions. I just really didn't want to put holes in my cubby
It holds up the trunk well and closes solidly.

I mounted my struts up higher from the kit, had to carve 2 channels in the breeze cubby for clearance, but I think it turned out good
I also added a couple of mounts on the rear to help with stability

I had the same interference issue with my seat belts. I moved the mounting to just inboard of the roll hoops. they are sitting at an angle but still effectively open the trunk lid. I will see if I can find some photos later this afternoon or take some new ones when I get home.

I was incorrect on my original post….I moved the gas strut mounts to the location between the seat belts, NOT onboard of roll hoop. Sorry for the bad memory and confusion this may have cause (angle of the tube would be too great in that location).
Sorry for the rotation.
