I live in Ohio and went to get my VIN for my 33 hot rod today at the inspection station in Troy. They told me I had to have front and rear bumpers! Anyone else run into this in Ohio? If so, what did you do?

Bummer. Any chance a different inspection person/location would say different?
What fender config do you have?

The only bumper I've seen lately was done on the front wheels by Andreas https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?26293-Black-amp-Copper-33-Hot-Rod-1028

Good luck

I have bike fenders... I was thinking about another inspection lace but wanted to see what other people in Ohio ran into first.

Michigan also has bumper requirements. Here’s what I did for the front. I passed the first inspection with only this and no rear. Should know in a couple of weeks if this will be ok for getting the title. Attaches to the grill with 1/4-20 Allen heads in the location I’m using for the nose cone anyway.

Peter

Are you planning on removing these after the inspection or what is your plan?

Yup. Easy to remove. Easy to replace if needed. If I get hassled, starting point for some nerf bars.

Yup...same here, I'll add something later if needed, although in SoDak the inspection was more number checking (motor & tranny s/n, Chassis s/n) than safety, the inspector said it's up to me and the law agency (police, sheriff, state patrol) to settle on what is and what is not required in case I ever get pulled over.

Not required in NM however I’m thinking these Pete & Jakes nerf bars might help keep the front grill from getting backed into.
I’d need to do some custom work to mount them.

For Michigan, it you have the signed TR-54 form (Vehicle Number and Equipment Inspection) there won't be any more actual inspections. You should be good to go. The SOS office will just confirm the form is completed and send your title application to Lansing. But having said that, maybe find a different LEO. Some approach it with a little more common sense. I've done the process four times and bumpers were never an issue. All the important stuff is there and working (lights, etc.). Including with my most recent Gen 3 Coupe. But it didn't have exterior bumpers on either the front or back. Nothing was said the box was checked. Hoping they feel the same way with my under construction truck when the time comes.
