View Full Version : 3 Prong Flasher - What's it for?
I'm finishing up the electrical wiring and found a silver 3 prong flasher which I have no idea where it goes. The 2x two prong LED flashers are installed onto the fuse box.
Side note; I am working through a turn signal & hazard issue so perhaps it goes to that some how. Headlights, tail lights and brake lights all work correctly except the turn signal and hazard switches do nothing at the moment. I double checked all the wires, but will triple check again tomorrow.
Build is a MK4 using all FFR and RF components.
QUESTION: what's the silver 3 prong flasher for and if you have any idea's where to start trouble shooting turn signal and hazard issues please send them my way.

If you have the two solid state flashers in the Ron Francis panel, then the silver metal older style thermal flashers are not used. Throw them in your extra parts box. :o
Headlights, tail lights and brake lights all working correctly is good. By "tail lights" I assume you mean the running lights. Those are all on separate circuits from the hazards and turn signals. Two hints for the hazards and turn signals: (1) They have to be wired exactly like the Ron Francis circuit diagram shows. That seems like an obvious point but for whatever reason some miss it. Differences can cause it to not work or backfeed. (2) Check the voltage on the wires. You should have +12V on the pink hazard flasher wire at all times, e.g. with and without the ignition key on. You should have +12V on the grey turn signal feed wire only when the ignition is on. That's a starting point.

I also had a 3 prong flasher left over after my build. It doesn't have anything to do with your current turn signal situation.

The three prong flasher is for the turn lights, two prong would be for the hazards. As already stated the old metal ones are thermal flasher, don't work if using LED bulbs.

FFR has been giving them with the kit for as long as I can remember. Never knew why. I just throw it in the trash.

Update: moved the inputs to the hazard switch and now my hazards work correctly. Front and rear blink accordingly. The fix was interesting … hazard switch has three rows of prongs and I moved the pink wires to the middle. Now hazards work.
Two problems left …
1. Turn signals don’t work, but hazards do.
2. High beam indicator doesn’t work. The turn signal indicator does work for hazards but also turn on for high beam. Weird!
Any thoughts?
Side question - do the turn signals work when ignition is on the “electrical on”? Perhaps that’s why my tests are failing.
Figured it out. The “electrical on” is different than the “on”. Only problem is the indicators but that should be an easy fix.
Thanks guys
