We have been go karting for about 14 miles, but one issue is that we are unable to get our rev limiter working.

We tried to set the rev limiter to 3000 as a test and we are able to rev it past 3000. I can't find anything in the instructions on trouble shooting this issue and I've scoured the EFI forums with no success.

We have the BluePrint 347 with the 4150 Holley Sniper EFI. It has the MSD Blaster Coil. There is no separate ignition box.

Any ideas?

What distributer are you using. Since you don't have an ignition module where / how are you setting the rev limit.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious but the system needs to be wired so that the timing is controlled by the Sniper. Referring to the Sniper installation manual, which setup did you follow (what page) - there are different connections needed depending on distributor type, etc.

You will need a separate rev limiter wired to your coil. I used the Petronix one, but MSD makes them too.

In order for the Sniper to do the rev limiting, you need to be using their ignition box and distributer.

According to my Sniper manual the main rev limiter will start to shut injectors off at the value set. Default is 20000 rpm. Seems a tad high:confused: I set mine at 6500. The engine was built for that but I haven’t got close yet.

When you set the rev. limit on the Sniper hand held controller, make sure you properly enter that into the memory. Mine works fine and I do not have it controlling the timing (yet). But Holley has exceptional customer service. Call them and they'll help out and give you all the time you need. You may be on hold for 10 to 20 minutes, but they do answer and follow up.

Really strange, page 25 of the Sniper Tuning and Log View Software User Manual manual says it rev limits by controlling the spark!
Description: The ECU will cut spark at any RPM above the “High RPM” setting

I'm sure we've totally confused the OP now, and I am too I think....

The best advice is to make sure the value you input is saved into the ECU then call Holley if that doesn't work. The tech department was great when I was trouble shooting problems with my installation.
A WAG (wild a$$ guess) on the conflicting information in the installation manual is, one section applies to when the Sniper controls timing and the other applies to when it doesn't.

Agreed on calling Holley Tech Support. You may have to wait more than a while, but the guys who answer the phone are almost always really, really good.

Agreed, I’ve had to call them a few times. I’ll usually do it when I’m in the garage and just put it on speeker phone. I keep chugging away at the car until someone answers. When they do they are very good.

Thank you all for the responses!!!

I was just using the handheld and changing the main rev limiter. I am not using the 2 step option.

I actually don't know what distributer I'm using and I won't be at the car until the end of the month. Sadly work gets in the way.

Here is my plan. I'm going to double check that I'm saving it into memory correctly. I have read some things on the Sniper forum and most people have a "save" option when they enter the main rev limiter value, but I never saw that option. That makes me wonder if I'm in the wrong section in the software. However, when I cycle the ignition the value I entered is still there.

Next, I think you all convinced me to call Holley when I get a chance! It makes me wonder if I wired something up incorrectly or if I'm just not importing it right. They will help.

Like I said, due to work and family obligations, I won't get back to the car until the end of the month. I'll report back when I call and let you know what I've come up with.

Another idea I have had is to get the laptop cable and use that software instead to set everything. I hear it is easier to use.

I know this is a super late reply (only 2 years), but we finally resolved the issue this week. We couldn't figure out the rev limiter on the Holley Sniper during the build and then we were having too much fun driving the car. I never could get the EFI to control the Rev Limiter, but I suspect it is because our setup doesn't allow the Holley Sniper to actually do this.

I ended up following Terry's (TMartinLVNV) advice. I purchased a separate rev limiter and installed it a few days ago. It took about 30 minutes to install and it worked flawlessly.

I purchased the PerTronix Digital Rev Limiter 600 from Summit. It was easy to install and easy to setup. I ended up attaching it to the top of the passenger foot box.

I tested it out with the limiter set at 2700 and it worked. Then I set it to 5,800 and took it for a drive. I accelerated fairly hard and my RPMs stopped right at 5,800.

Now I can drive without having to worry about over revving the engine. The real benefit is that I can turn the rev limiter down to 2,000 rpms when it is my brother's turn to have the car...

It's funny because it's true!
