Happy Friday, all!

Curious for those who have ordered MkIV Complete kits recently...how long have you (or are you) waiting for yours to arrive? I understand the pandemic really put the slow-down on everything. Also curious about parts backorder...things starting to move quicker yet?

Thanks,

Greg

Roadster orders placed this week are getting mid-January production dates. Parts backorders are a crap shoot and could be dramatically different in 6 months. Or not...

Wow. Ok, so no, not getting any better. I guess I better order soon if I want to be building come spring. Thanks, gents.

I picked mine up on 3/5/21 and still have a half dozen parts on back order. Fortunately, most of the parts remaining will not slow down my build progress.

Thanks. Having been down this road years ago, the backorders don't bother me too much...was just curious if there are still supplier challenges. I know I'll have plenty to keep me busy while parts trickle in. I built my MkIII in about 4 months, and years later, I realize the build was as much fun as driving it, so I'm going to relish the build this time!

[My 2c, you're going to be confusing people with your profile pic - we'll all think you're FFR replying to a thread :p]

Greg,
The back orders are worse than ever—-maybe you’ve heard that the world supply chain is broken? :p Seriously, just talking with Dave last week he told me that “staples” such as 3/8” and 1/2” bolts and 1 5/8” DOM tubing are in short supply and difficult to locate. Beyond that are the challenges with getting low volume specialty &/or proprietary items from some of their cottage industry suppliers.

Agreed. When I saw it a couple of days ago I initially thought Dave was posting since that’s his avatar.

Think this is bad put an order in on one of the new Ford Bronco's. I put one in last week and current estimated build is Sept of 2022. This is an issue across the entire automotive industry small fries and large guppies alike.

Thanks for the info, folks, I appreciate it. I'll just keep planning my build and saving my pennies for awhile. Maybe things will loosen up in 6 months or so. Meantime, I have a lot to learn about the Gen3 Coyote and how it all works in the MkIV, so that'll keep me busy. I'll probably order this Fall, and when it gets here, it gets here. :)

Oh, and good thought on the Avatar. I'll change it. Don't want to be labeled an imposter!

We have a report at work called a NEGNET. Short for negative Net Position. It's a report for customer orders we have in hand, but can't fill. We are backordered. For 22 years at this company, the report is always at $1M. Occasionally if it reaches $2M we are in non-stop meetings and heads are rolling.
Today that report hit $44M.
That's $44 million in orders we have, but can't ship.
The global supply chain is broken.
Our factories are all fine. Lead time to production is the best it's been in years. we simply can't get the product here. We have warehouses packed in Chine because we only get about 15 containers per week. We need about 20 per DAY.
I'd love to source more stuff from the US, but there are many barriers to that. Hopefully we are seeing the worst of it now and it will only get better.

I watched an interesting video on this issue. There are only 2 ports into the US on the west coast from the far east and they run through California. Usually the offload is about 2 days but now is about 4weeks due to California and Fed COVID restrictions. Now add to the fact they have no time to reload the empty cargo containers onto the boats to go back to the far East has created a container shortage.......... So until The main ports in California open up this is what is going to continue..... This was my understanding from the article and IMO.

One of those two ports is the Port of Oakland. I sail in the SF Bay. There used to be, on average, 1-2 cargo ships anchored off of south San Francisco (near the Giants ballpark) waiting to offload at the port of Oakland. Nowadays there are typically ~15 ships at anchor waiting to offload.

I have been in the parts business forty years this year and have never seen backorders like now. I am currently involved in the heavy duty truck industry. All the major engine, transmission and refrigeration manufacturers are struggling. Backorders are created with no estimated ship date. One major engine manufacturer is offering up used parts. This situation is concerning because the trucking industry is vital to this country.

It is just not FFR, tried to go buy a matching set of a washer and dryer yesterday and soon realized was going to be challenging. Finally found a local appliance store that had one matching set left that we were interested in, even though they are white and could not be sourced in darker colors. Sales guy also mentioned we could probably sell our 5 year old set for over half of what we paid for them.... crazy times right now.
