I saw where others were using aluminum L stock as trim for the area under the door and thought I'd give it a try. Shopping for material I came upon this aluminum stair edging.

This edging has one side that is flat while the other side is concave. The concave side makes a nice transition where the horizontal meets the vertical carpeting. Also, the edging has ribbing running the length giving it some character. The pre-drilled holes were perfect for 1/8" rivets.

It was easy to cut to size with a skilsaw, and to bend once relief cuts were made. I used a dremel and cut off wheel to remove a couple of inches on the concave side to accommodate the speaker box at the forward end.

If you aren't happy with the way your carpeting comes together under the door, this stair edging might be the thing.

That’s exactly what I’m doing, except I’m using vinyl to match the carpeting! Carpet was looking a bit tattered after 15 years and 84k miles of smiles!
