View Full Version : How deep is the bed of the 35 hot rod truck?
Questions:
How deep is the bed?
Does it really need the boards?
Can it tow a light Teardrop camper (500-750 pounds)? Tent camping? A lightish boat (small 8 foot raceboat)?
Can it be used for hauling items? i.e. wood for projects?
Is it possible to add four-wheel drive to it?
In other words, can it be used for anything else besides driving?
Please, no rude comments. I have had enough of those from other forums & Facebook groups because of my questions.

My bed is about 4 3/4” deep to the first break line in the quarter panels. However I have a wood looking bed which adds about an inch so you loose an inch of depth. No you do not have to add the wood bed you build it the way you want it to be. There are several options of tie down systems out there you can add to the bed floor to tie things down. Adding four wheel drive is probably out of the question trying to add a transfer case would be difficult. I have a rv and a enclosed trailer so yes to answer your question I do go camping with with my truck. I do not tow anything with my truck but if I was going to I would of built it with a automatic transmission. My truck is a mean street machine, that I built for the purpose of doing burnouts, drifting, cruise nites and going to car shows. I use my Silverado to haul things for all my projects . Rob

Yea you can haul things in them if you set up the bed appropriately…two photos of mine to follow.
Trailers…well…you’ll need to butcher the back end a wee bit but nothing too nasty to allow for a hitch.
Tongue weight? max…a guess 100-150 lbs without purchasing different springs for the rear. Total trailer weight…well…these trucks are pretty light so anything beyond a few hundred pounds is a significant portion of the vehicle weight and could become very ‘interesting’ in an emergency stop situation. Maybe 300 lbs…as my guess…???
Good luck 👍🏼

And if you’re goofy enough you can do things like this with appropriate tires… Ha 😂

Hey, that's deep enough to haul a few 4x4 plywood for projects. Perfect!! I won't do the 4 wheel drive though. Just had to ask that. lol We have car shows here so I may do that.

Not really a fan of kayaks but I see now that I can tie down my canoe & SUP board. Or nested boat...We don't get much snow here except a couple years ago it was pretty deep (well, deep for here anyway). My dog loved it. He's a Blue Heeler. He was running through it in the backyard, chasing toys and making paths. All I saw was his ears. He was only out there when I was outside. Looks like there is enough room in the cab for my pup to ride with me. He loves car rides.

A guy in Hawaii added a ladder rack so he could carry his surf boards on top his IG account is @hawaii35ford, on this forum "35 Ford Hoonatruck "
He also used the hydraulic shocks from JRi to be able to raise the truck for ground clearance

I like how he did the bed of the truck. The extra board attached to the sides to make it a little higher. That removable ladder rack is a really great idea. Who am I kidding? He did a great job with the whole truck. I like the idea of hydraulic shocks. You just never know when you need them. I like bench seats though for trucks.
Thank you everyone for your answers!
So, will a small camper fit? Asking for a friend.

Not sure why you didn't post your own question. I really don't know the answer but I did find a page about truck popup campers:
