View Full Version : Cold Air Induction (CAI) for Pushrod 5.0 with Sequential Fuel Injection Possible?

Anyone ever create a custom-made cold air induction (CAI) setup via the hood scoop for a pushrod 5.0 with sequential fuel injection? I know this might be an engineering stretch, but I've seen some "creative" setups on Mustangs with a functional Shelby-style fiberglass hood with a scoop. If not, has anyone made some custom "plumbing" to get the air filter into a spot near the front valance where cold air is coming in? I always like a challenge when it comes to things like this. ;)

I did this about 12 years ago on my Mk1. It fits right inside the hood scoop. Not much room to spare

That is very creative and something similar to what I had in mind. Besides the Cobra air cleaner, what did you use for plumbing to fabricate it?

I have no recollection of suppliers/part numbers. It is all 3" intake tube. I got an intake tube for custom use that had lots of angles etc. I cut as I needed. I used isolating couplers so engine movement was decoupled from the MAF. I sealed the carb opening in the base of the air filter and cut a 3" hole at the front, (need to clear the distributor). Turnbuckles from HD. Mounted the rear of the air filter to the "Mustang 5.0" plate on the manifold.

Thanks - that will get me going in the right direction.

Correction. Its in 3.5" OD tube.
The stuff I used: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aid-100-350
Another picture of the internals on the filter base.

My piping is also 3.5" and I utilize an 80mm MAF. Appreciate the additional pic of the air cleaner and Airaid part number - this will make my project much easier to complete.
