So I finally got started on the engine. Took the oil pan off and am installing the new Moroso pickup and pan. When I took off the old oil pan and gasket, it looks like there is a bunch of RTV they squirted in the corners. I was going to scrape it all off but it appears that in the back it is run way down into the block. Before I pull a bunch of it out and mess something up, I thought I'd double check with the experts here and see if that is actually sealing anything down there or if is just a big drip from the factory? Here's a picture (it is about the best I could get). I assume it is just running down there from the factory - but it goes pretty far down there.

Good grief... Typically applied by a robot. Belched or something. Remove it. Clean everything off and apply a new bead along the surface of the four corners where the front and rear covers meet the block. Then drop the windage tray/gasket piece into place and you're good to go.

Great. I had a feeling that was it. I was really surprised how much there was and how far down it went. Thanks for the help!
