If you're carrying a spare, you also need a jack and the tools to take the tire on/off. Unless you're looking for authenticity (the originals by rule were required to carry a spare) it's a big hit on the limited space you already have. Not to mention the cost of another rim, tire, etc. and what it looks like sitting under the hatch glass. This is what I carry: http://www.my-airman.com/product/tire-repair-solutions/resq-pro-. $60 on Amazon and hope to never use. But would bail me out if needed. Probably know this, but more and more what's being provided on DD's as well. Also have towing on my insurance. It's a cheap addition.

what size is your spare and do you have jack under tire?

Bought the OEM GENUINE FORD 15-21 MUSTANG SPARE TIRE KIT FR3Z1K007C and have it lug-nut side down, with the jack and a 1/2" drive torque wrench (less than $20 from harbor freight) and socket in the bowl (inside of wheel) + a few misc. tools and a cheap multimeter. The wrench that comes with the kit is crummy! The kit jack fits easily under my 4 1/2" ground clearance 65 and lifts the car easily. It also fits easily into the bowl. I test fitted everything, and what yo see "IS IT"
There is a plywood cover over the wheel with a bit of carpet over it. The "hold-down " sq. steel rod which is secured and pushed down by the thumb-screws holds everything in place, with the tire butting up against the roll bar supports. I keep a small roll of carpet on the left side next to the wheel for draping over the spoiler when taking out/putting back the spare.

Ford says: "This spare wheel & tire kit will fit all 2015 thru 2018 Ford Mustang with either the 17, 18" or 19" wheel. Will not fit the GT"
On the tire marks are: T155\60R18 107M

Full size spare on a stand build out of an old axle.
I carry a small bag with a jack and other small tools. Need the small Allan wrench for the spinner too.
