I purchased an MK4 kit (order #132754) a few years ago and went for first start last weekend. There was a coolant leak coming from the heater assembly and when I took the assembly apart there was a hole in one of the copper pipes in the core itself (see attached pics). The hole is tucked behind the plastic shroud so it looks like a manufacturer's defect. On the FFR website, the assembly is out of stock. Anyone know who I should contact to get a replacement heater core? Ideally under warranty but if not for purchase?

That looks like a pretty easy repair. Probably an HVAC shop could do it for you or a radiator shop if they exist any more. Properly soldered it would be as good as new.

You could just solder it. Solder the hole, then sand smooth and add a copper (thin sheet) patch, contoured to the shape and solder it in place.

I've got a buddy who is a pro welder - will bring it to him and see what he can do

Wrap some solid copper wire around the spot if you can, and solder it! The wire will beef up the area of the repair. It’s something I picked up from a plumber who had to fix copper pipes that had been pierced by a drywall screw.
