So how difficult would it be to put a Mendeola transaxle in a Gen 1? Only the Porsche trans was an option for Gen 1 (I think), and I also think they mount differently. Having difficulty finding a good source online for strong Porsche trans builds (suggestions?).

It shouldn't be too bad. You'd either have to get a new rear sub-frame from FFR (the part that bolts in with the 4 bolts to the main chassis) or modify the Gen I subframe to work with the Mendy mounts which would probably not be that difficult with some basic tools and a welder.

I know Mendeola sells generic mounting plates that can be fitted and welded into a chassis...or at least they used to. Give them a call as it may be much easier and faster if they still have these available.

Will the Gen 1 diffuser need mods too?

Worst case, cut a recess hole in it. Possibly with a Gurney bubble patch.
Could also modify it to be spaced downwards, like the Gen 2 GTM.
Regardless, don't lose any sleep over modifying the diffuser because it is essentially non-functional as delivered.
