I am sure this has been replied to before ad nauseum, but bare with this old guy. I have the complete kit with manual steering and am going power. I have a reconditioned 89 power rack with inner tie rod ends. The manual indicates the need for extensions for power steering racks. As I lay the power and manual racks together the demensions seem the same. Whats the geometric differance? Do I have to cut the existing inners or can you use the manual inners. Teach this old dog some new tricks. Thanks

The extensions are not to make the overall length greater but rather to move the innermost pivot point into a better geometric relationship with the upper & lower control arms for bump steer purposes. After they are installed you either need to cut back the inners or use shorter outers.

Thanks Jeff. Do the extensions come with instructions on the proper way to install and the amount to cut? Any pics?

The power rack extension instructions are in the base kit manual.

The amount that people have had to cut is usually around 1/2". I would get every thing installed and set it on the ground to see if you will have to cut anything first. Measure twice, cut once.

I ordered the extensions and have disassembled the rack and understand a lot more now. It isn't so evil looking as I thought. Thanks Brian
