I'm using the Ron Francis wiring and notice it uses ground on the sender units, but my senders don't use them. Does this matter? Do I solder them to the side, or ignore the ground? Thanks! 148842

I'm going to assume you're using sending units that were either supplied or compatible with your gauges. It's not unusual that some sending units don't have an actual ground terminal. In those cases they're getting the ground through the threads where screwed into the engine. In those cases, typical that sealant or tape is not used in order to insure a good connection. Make sure you're engine is well grounded. You would not use the RF ground wires in the sending unit harness. The entire harness has a ground connection near the fuse panel.

Thank you for the response, yes, where possible I am using the Autometer senders that came with the gauges. The oil bung shown in the photo is not from the RF setup, it is one that is for the oil pan. However, since the oil pan has a gasket, I am guessing it won't be grounded, which makes me wonder why it is with the oil pan at all. Interesting. I might have to see if I can find one that is the same thing with a ground plug on it.

The mounting bolts ground the oil pan.

Could one not use a large ring terminal that slides over the threads on the sender body to make the ground?

It'll be fine - I've got the same setup and it works perfectly grounded through the pan bolts.

Perfect. I'll hook it up, coil the ground away, and run a test. Thank you for your input!

I have never had a problem on the FFR w/ grounds for the gauges etc. But they are critical. I retired after working as a tech on Lexus cars for 20 years. It was some times almost comical how many little ground wires they had all over the engine. It became even more so when they started using plastic upper intakes. One car started having intermittent trans shifting problems. We finally ordered a trans for it (warranty), put it in, and same thing. Long story short the car had previously had the intake off which had 2 small ground wires to it. Almost impossible to get your hand and a wrench on it. The bolt through the eye on the intake end was there but not tight, which apparently screwed the reading from throttle position sensor to the trans ECU.
